When you’re watching a replay of a game on Optus Sport, they interrupt mid-game with a TAB commercial every 10 minutes. They are NOT banner ads.
OK, thanks for clarifying.
What are you watching on?
Great to have Martin Tyler commentary via the world feed on Optus for Euro 2020. He will be calling the 3 Italian, and 3 England group games, the first of the two r16 London games, the Rome QF, the 1st SF, and final for the world feed.
With Sports Flick out bidding Optus Sport for CL/EL/ECL 2021-24 rights earlier this year, then retracting their bid, will rights go to the 2nd highest bidder, rumoured to be Stan, if they still want it, or will they do a new round of blind bidding, opening the door for Optus to retain rights?
Stan are currently deep in negotiations with UEFA.
Chromecast. I expect putting ads on mid-game in soccer matches if it was Seven, Nine or Ten, but on a platform you’re paying a monthly subscription for it’s a different kettle of fish altogether.
I expect putting ads on mid-game
It’s not the live games, right?
I watched England v Croatia last night and there were no mid-game ads. Only on the on-demand full replays.
Ok, I’ve never come across ads in my match replays. It could be because you are watching on Chromecast and the internet is glitching to the ads at the start of the replay.
The 2021/22 Premier League fixture was announced in England today. Next year the Australian broadcast rights will be up for renewal.

Frankly their set/s are better than most other Australian broadcasters, they make them look almost amateurish.
…(captured on Monday when the geoblock of ESPNNews failed)
That’s not a failure - ESPNNews (as well as ESPN’s college conference channels) are available to Foxtel/Fetch subscribers through the ESPN app/website. It’s just ESPN forgets to/doesn’t black out content on ESPNNews they don’t have the rights to in Australia/New Zealand.
It’s rarely an issue considering the channel mostly just airs repeats of ESPN programming but it happens from time to time.
I think it’s comparable to Foxtel sports programs also quite similar to some of SBS’s various sports events.
I should’ve clarified I was mainly referring to the commercial broadcasters, but even SBS’ studio looks big and empty sometimes with the wide angles.
I still think Optus’ looks far better in comparison from a purely aesthetic point of view.
Stan’s announcement this morning that it has acquired rights to UEFA Champions League, Europa League and the upcoming Conference League is a huge blow for Optus Sport. OS will now be desperate to retain Premier League rights now, and hopefully poach other leagues and competitions from BeIN Sport (e.g. EFL Cup, Serie A and Ligue 1) as those contracts expire.
