Thanks, that is a good story. It indicates that it will be easier to go into an Optus store and buy a phone outright.
UEFA Champions League and Europa League resume this week and here are the matches on Optus Sport.
The Champions League clash between Borussia Dortumund and Paris Saint-Germain is the âfree seat matchâ.
They picked a good match to let people watch for free.
This will pretty much kill BeIN in Australia youâd think. Had lofty ambitions when it first launched but got blindsided by a new player.
Hopefully Optus will have enough capacity to show EPL, La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga matches at the same time though!
Why didnât Optus Sport get the FA Cup when they had the chance? They couldâve got it, last year the third and fourth rounds were not shown on Australian television until ESPN got the rights later on. Also the League (Carabao) Cup, Scottish Professional Football League and the Championship should also be on Optusâ sights. If they had them all Optus would be a âone stop shopâ for British football.
But since most English Championship matches are played at the same time as EPL (typical 3pm kickoff), wonât it split the audience?
To some degree sure. However, it probably wouldnât concern them that much since they would still be within the Optus Sport ecosystem
I wonder how many of these are held by beIN on a multi-country arrangement (like the MLS is)
lol have you seen the satellite facility they have at Belrose?, no issues at all with inbound, their outbound from Redfern is equally impressive as its all IP based.
They also have a new CDN provider (and heaps of back up redundancy) and have had no major dramas getting content out to subscribers on all there platforms/networks.
The only issue would be NBN AVC/CVC but that is not so much their issue as it is the 3rd parties providers that peer into there IP network streams.
Copa America 2020
Optus Sport continues to secure the best football from around the world with the acquisition of Australian media rights for the CONMEBOL Copa America 2020 tournament, which will be an even bigger occasion for Australian football fans this year with the Socceroos set to take on South Americaâs best.
With UEFA Euro 2020 already slated for June and July on Optus Sport, the broadcast schedule has exploded with the addition of the Copa America 2020. Every match of both tournaments will feature live on Optus Sport between June 13 â July 13.
The Copa America, which is the oldest international football competition, is the main menâs football tournament in South America to determine the South American national champion. Since 1993, two teams from other confederations have been invited to play. In 2020 the Socceroos will make their first appearance, along with Qatar.
âWe are really pleased to be the home of every match of the Copa America tournament and to showcase the Socceroos on their quest against the best teams from South America,â Optusâ Head of TV and Content Corin Dimopoulos said.
âOptus Sport continues to grow and attract new content; with an active subscribing base of over 825,000 and other recent rights acquisitions including the FA Womenâs Super League and the J.League.
âFrom Lionel Messi and Neymar in the Copa America, to Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian MbappĂŠ in Euro 2020, what was already a big year for Optus Sport has now become a whole lot bigger.
The Socceroos have been drawn in Group A, which will see them take on hosts Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Bolivia and Uruguay. Their first match is scheduled for June 14, with exact match details still to be announced.
âTo watch Australia play in such an amazing tournament against high quality opposition will be a brilliant experience, and Iâm especially looking forward to seeing the rivalry with Uruguay reignite,â former Socceroo and Optus Sport expert Mark Schwarzer said.
âItâs going to be a feast of the best football on the planet across June and July, and I canât wait to be part of the team that brings viewers our really exciting coverage of both Euro 2020 and the Copa America.â
Optus Sport will confirm coverage and hosting details for both CONMEBOL Copa America 2020 and UEFA Euro 2020 after both the Copa schedule is released and the four remaining playoff positions for UEFA Euro 2020 are filled.

Wednesday 11 March
Europeâs immeasurable contribution to Australian football will be celebrated by Optus Sport over the next 100 days, culminating with kick off for UEFA Euro 2020 on June 13.
âFootball Belongsâ is an Optus Sport-produced series including a feature-length special exploring the impact that Australiaâs European football and social clubs have had on Australian communities.
Seen through the eyes of a host of international and Socceroos stars, âFootball Belongsâ is a celebration of immigration stories and traditions, incorporating song, dance, food, wine and festivals.
The 13-part series and feature-length special, features over one-hundred interviews with prominent Australians and legends of the game, including with two of Australiaâs FIFA World Cup coaches, Ange Postecoglou and Rale Rasic, along with coaching great Frank Arok.
Legendary Socceroos John Aloisi, Adrian Alston, Mark Bresciano, Milan Ivanovic, Zeljko Kalac, Tony Popovic, Ray Richards, Mark Schwarzer, Josip Skoko and Sasa Ognenovski share their experiences of the unique culture of Australiaâs European migrant communities.
Popular media personalities such as Santo Cilauro, George Donikian and Nick Giannopoulos also tell of how football shaped their own lives.
âAustralian football has been woven with European thread, and âFootball Belongsâ captures the culture and passion of the people for whom football was the foundation of their second home,â Optusâ Director of Sport Richard Bayliss said.
âThe series and long-form special will highlight just how integral European culture is to our sporting landscape, and what it has contributed to our nation as a whole.â
For the first feature, which will premiere on Wednesday March 11, Optus Sport visited NPL club Preston Lions to profile the Macedonian football community.
Each Wednesday thereafter will be a new community profiled; including Albania, Croatia, England, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Serbia and Turkey. The series will culminate with a feature length special on all communities.
The series will be available to watch for free on selected Optus Sport platforms (data charges may apply).
UEFA Euro 2020 is being held from June 13 to July 13 (AEST), and for the first time in the competitionâs 60-year history, matches are being hosted in 12 countries across the continent.
Optus Sport will be the only place to watch every match of the tournament live, complimented by a host of football talent providing analysis and opinion throughout the tournament on Optus Sport produced programming.
The Daily Telegraph is reporting tonight that Optus is the favourite to secure the Rugby Australia rights package. While RA hasnât received any offers yet, Optus are expected to make a âlowballâ offer as seemingly the only party interested in the rights
Additionally, Optus have begun talking to production companies and will fold the expected production costs of $10 million a year into their offer to RA
where did my post go? into the ether?
Optus Sport is being hit hard with postponement of every football competition it has the rights to, the latest being Premier League.
In short, it wonât have live matches for at least the next three weeks.
More bad news for Optus with Euro 2020 and Copa America (which the Socceroos will take part in) postponed until 2021.
With Premier League now postponed until April 30 at the earliest, Optus will launch a dedicated club days channel on Optus Sport 2 from tomorrow (March 21).
