One News NZ (2016-Feb 2025)

With all due respect to Wendy - who I like as a 6pm reader - she’s not overly versatile.
She’s not a great adlibber (as seen on some of the Covid updates during lockdown), doesn’t really report well from the field either.

Simon can do those things pretty well.

I thought the image tile was a mistake or had cached or something, but turns out it’s correct.

Sounds very strange, they needed to have come up with a better way to sell this show.

Neighbours from hell, but promote it like it’s The Bachelorette. Got it.

I’m confused. Is this new “A Current Affair” show set to air on TVNZ 2 going to be a nightly or weekly show?

Either way, content such as this…

…sounds pretty similar to the calibre of stories that Aussies see on Nine’s ACA.

A website isn’t a production.

Declining audiences year on year and this is what they come up with to attract an audience. Luckily we have streaming to avoid it!

From the article posted it seems to imply only one local reporter for the show and I suspect they will use ACA stories from Channel Nine to pad out the rest of the show. Similar to how TVNZ now produce 20/20 by having a local presenter doing the intros and teases but all content from ABC in the USA.

What a waste of Susie Nordqvist’s talents. Surely they could have got someone like Laura Daniel to co-host this “entertainment show”, as TVNZ describes it.

Cheap to use content from overseas with 5 minutes of local stuff packaged by 1 news. Give TVNZ 2 daily news bulletin at 1730.

One News late edition partial recording from December 24, 2001 (yes, a Christmas Eve late news!).

That era of intro and music (introduced on December 31 1999) is my fave, although I change my mind with the 2003 trance era pretty regularly.

Such a rare find, and the fact they did some long form interviews on Late Edition still buzzes me out, hope there is more. Wouldn’t mind if someone uploaded Breakfast Summer Edition from that era as well.

Good era of 1News, uniformed, themed with graphics and music, lighting etc, that was a good set, if a similar desk was used on the current wall set it would be an amazing look. Hope the new boss brings the zing again to 1newsroom.

There’s a few things I’d love to see pop up like that.

  • One News’ September 11 coverage (there’s an opener on TVNZ’s website but nothing else)
  • Breakfast in 2003 when it went to the news desk in the mornings during the Iraq strikes
  • John Hawkesby on TVNZ during his six weeks or whatever it was back before he got dumped (and got a payout)

Yes, I would love to see all those bulletins/programmes uploaded. I remember Breakfast broadcasting a Conflict in Iraq special on Saturday morning from the news desk you mention. Surely someone has this VHS lying around in the garage. I find it odd that there is no tapes of John Hawkesby presenting One News on YouTube.
