Olympics Coverage - History

…via a paid subscription to the 7Olympics app no doubt.

…or referring to 7mateHD coverage of the Olympics!

I wouldn’t jump to that conclusion because if that was the case, that tweet would have simply said something along the lines of Seven’s Olympic coverage through 7mate will be in HD for Sydney, Brisbane & Perth viewers.

While some on this forum are obsessed about predicting/assuming what Seven will do regarding HD every few days in a merry-go-round fashion, it might be best until something is officially announced before jumping to conclusions…

According to The Sunday Telegraph, former Olympic diver Matthew Mitcham and Saturday Disney’s Teigan Nash will host Buzz from Brazil, a new twice daily update during the Olympics of what is hot in Rio on social media. I think it’s a good late addition to Seven’s coverage.

Saul Shtein (Head of Sport, Seven Network) must be working overtime.

This would have to be Ch 7’s biggest cumulative coverage/event, since 2008?

Wonder how many staff (incl. commentators) there are in total, working on Olympics + AFL in Melbourne & Rio?

NB/
Just saw the latest “Rio 2016” promos with Bruce McAvaney’s end-tag tonight during the Footy

I knew Mitcham had be to be involved with Olympic coverage somewhere. I just didn’t know what. It is good to see his media career continue after retiring from diving late last year.

BUZZ FROM BRAZIL

Matthew Mitcham and Teigan Nash to present daily social show during Seven’s coverage of the Rio
2016 Olympic Games.

Olympic gold medallist Matthew Mitcham and Seven personality Teigan Nash have joined Seven’s Rio 2016 broadcast team to present BUZZ FROM BRAZIL, a daily program containing a snapshot of what’s happening across social media in and around the Games.

BUZZ FROM BRAZIL will screen across the Channels of Seven, including premiere airings during Seven’s primetime show, IN RIO TODAY, which will air nightly at 7pm, hosted by Hamish McLachlan. BUZZ will also be showcased across the 7Olympics social platforms multiple times each day of the Olympic Games, highlighting the best viral video, tweets, posts and social content from athletes and fans both in Rio and back home.

Matt said: “Since one of my favourite pastimes is Facebook-stalking other athletes, I couldn’t think of a better way to be part of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games than hosting Seven’s social media segment Buzz From Brazil. With my co-host Teigan’s experience on TV, my insider knowledge of the village and my thorough ‘researching skills’, we’re going to bring viewers a fresh perspective of the Games.”

Teigan said: “I am so excited to be a part of Rio 2016 hosting Buzz from Brazil My co-host Matt has a lot of experience with the Olympic Games winning #GOLD, so I am so thrilled to be ‘diving’ into this adventure with him. The Olympics brings with it much buzz from the athletes to the viewers, so bring on the fun, the excitement, the journeys, the golds and the green and golds!”

As an athlete, Matt has achieved the ultimate Olympic success – a gold medal in the 10m platform diving event in Beijing and in doing so, the highest single diving score in Olympic history. Since retiring earlier this year, Matt has taken his one man cabaret show, Twists and Turns, on the road and is a passionate advocate for male mental health issues.

Teigan is a co-host of SATURDAY DISNEY on 7TWO and with a keen interest in sport, she brings a fresh face to Seven’s social coverage.

More lazy programming based off of the internet. Might as well call it “Viewers’ Reactions to Rio Make You LOL”

The first problem with “in rio today” airing nightly at 7pm is the title. The second problem is hamish is the host. The third problem is that it’s a pointless show that will show highlights from the previous live coverage.

Very well produced promo just aired for the coverage. Featured Bruce in a very flash virtual set along with Jo Griggs and Mel M;

Hopefully someone can post it. I don’t watch seven at all. Pleased to say I haven’t watched seven once at all this year.

I have capped it. Will get it up ASAP.

Gee… I wonder why Hamish McLachlan gets to host all of Seven’s sport coverage :weary:

(His brother being the look-alike CEO of the AFL, which Ch 7 just signed $2.5 billion for 6 more years, wouldn’t have anything to do with it…)

not even for The Australian Open?

The highlights show isn’t pointless when you consider the vast majority of events will happen either overnight or while people are at work, school, etc. Such a show will probably be the first time most see a medal winning performance

For a virtual set it’s great! Imagine if the same effort was put in to the Perth 7News set… What could have been!

I’d say we will have 7HD by the Olympics. I’d say there was a plan for it all along and the current split scenario has been due to pressure from the AFL, so it was brought in that way earlier.

Maybe just in all the capital cities , not sure about regional Qld or Prime areas. I have fingers crossed for an anouncement this week .

By the way does 7 have rights to the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast as well ?
