Olympics Coverage - History

Should have been something announced by now. Rio Olympics is barely 2 weeks away.

I totally agree and I think there should definitely be HD. I will be incredibly disappointed if there isn’t, however all I see is the same questions in a variety of threads on the forum going on about "will it be HD?’ or ā€œwhen will they get HD?ā€.

I’m probably just having a case of Mondayitus being agro, so I apologise if it seems like I’m being a prick @TV_Addict, but with most cases if something hasn’t been said in relation to it or any announcements made it is just one of those cases that we all have to wait and see. We must remember there was no official announcement of the 7HD scenario.

I like you hope they surprise us and release a nationwide HD channel, but with the AFL situation, I don’t see it happening.

When will the coverage start/end each day? Doing some basic calculations hopefully all the finals for the swimming and track/field will be in their evening time which translates to breakfast for us.

Seven’s silence does not bode well for us folk outside Melbourne and Adelaide.

The whole situation is just absurd. Seven should be ashamed. Sydney will probably be the only global city on the planet not to receive HD coverage of these games.

Congratulations, you’ve just pissed off everyone in Brisbane and Perth :stuck_out_tongue:

The AFR reports Seven has signed a deal with an Australian technology firm backed by Square Peg Ventures and other business identities to deliver alert reminders to sports fans during the Rio Olympics.

I think some details will be revealed later this week so it could be included on the schedule for the next issue of TV Week.

I hear the swimming finals will be held at 10pm Rio time for primetime broadcast into the US, which translates to 11am AEST here.

That would be 9am in Western Australia

I thought 7 were launching an app that people would pay for to see the Olympics presumably in HD ?

Remember reading something about this .

And where is the rumoured 24 hour news channel for the games

It’s pointless to have 7mate as the HD channel in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. The main channel should be HD in all markets for the Games and beyond.

Imagine if 9 pulled off a similar stunt moving 9Gem as the HD channel in non-NRL states

Ads Seven are currently running for the app says they’ll be available August 1st

That’s going to be available through the apps:

I would hope they would be criticized on this forum just as much as Seven is rightly being criticized for their stance…

So we will have to pay to see it in HD ? WTF .

You can see the 7 streams in HD, but you have to pay for the 36 other streams.

I went to the Yourtv guide site and picked Brisbane for next Monday and it shows a 7HD but with 7Mate programming or did Brisbane already have HD ?

Nothing changed when I picked regional Qld.

Yet again…

Brisbane, Sydney and Perth currently get 7mate HD (despite the name in the EPG saying that it’s ā€œ7HDā€)
Melbourne and Adelaide currently get Seven HD.

This has already been explained on this forum (including to you) probably nearly 20 times now!

Yes apologies but the Yourtv guide was confusing…

According to advanced guides, Seven’s coverage will begin at 1.50am AEST on 7mate on Thursday, 4 August with the women’s football preliminaries.
