Olympics Coverage - History

No Bruce, Jim Wilson, steven bradbury, alisa camplin …

Good schedule with TV coverage plus OTT streaming which is the future of broadcasts. What was Seven’s schedule of Nagano 1998, Salt Lake City 2002 and Turin 2006 like

I think that’s already been decided, not saying I agree though.

Hamish is host of Aus Open, Winter Olympics & probably Comm Games, plus the Olympics (as seen in Rio 2016).

He accepted the Silver Logie last year.

He is great mates with Saul Shtein & Col Southey (and of course Bruce, both also herald from SA).

He was also selected as co-host of Australian Spartan.

And whilst not the co-commentator on Friday Night Football, will probably take-over from Bruce and join Brian Taylor one day.

Let’s hope that’s not for a long time, Bruce is the doyen :ok_hand:

Hamish is taking over Bruce’s role as main host of sports including the recently-completed Australian Open. Looks like he will be calling the athletics during the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in April and the Tokyo Olympics

Pretty weak host lineup. Where’s Jim Wilson? Kylie Gillies? Mark Beretta would make a good host.

I missed Cynic’s above posts, just scanned through them.

I think it’s pretty decent coverage line-up, given the Winter Olympics aren’t as popular as Summer Olympics or Comm Games.

Some of the hosts/commentators were obvious, but a few surprises.

I too expected Bruce to attend for the biggest events, but with his cancer and age, perhaps limiting him to his usual athletics and other things at Comm Games (on top of AFL and horse racing commitments) is reasonable.

Interesting to see Edwina Bartholomew in the host chair, a sign of a shift in her roles at Seven (as in actual sport)? Further exposure for her and Hamish with Australian Spartan too. I’d only seen Edwina as a roving reporter at the Melbourne Cup previously.

Slim pickings in terms of talent as hosts and callers

Ten had a better team in Sochi.

I like winter sports so will probably watch the app so I can just see the world feed on the separate streams and avoid sevens broadcast.

Good line-up, although having Olympics live from 7pm Sundays is risky. Married at First Sight and I’m a Celebrity will get a free run. And where is the schedule for February 25 (closing ceremony)?

Snowboarder Torah Bright should be the late inclusion after she missed out on a spot on the Australian team.

Got a notification this afternoon on my phone “7Tennis app is now OlympicsOn7 - Update now”.

Interesting move.

NB/
Sick of Seven’s unnecessary push notifications. I have them on, for any important reminders or breaking news, but got about 3 different ones for “MKR” from 7Live / 7Plus / 7News :unamused:

They do get a little annoying after a while, pretty sure I disabled notifications at one point. I remember getting a notification “not to miss Yummy Mummies”… :worried::face_vomiting:

Though I think it is a good move for Seven to just rebrand the current App depending on the type of Sports Season instead of creating unnecessary clutter by releasing dedicated Apps.

Yep, given so many have that app (client base), just frequent notifications and some reminders on TV, easy.

They’ll probably say to “download if you haven’t already” or something too.

7Tennis’ social media accounts have tens of thousands of followers too (couple of years old).

Not sure whether it’s a cat or a tiger?

Front Bar airs late night in at 10.30pm at the end of competition

It is a white tiger.

Soohorang is a white tiger, considered to be a guardian of Korea. Tigers were prevelant in Korea until the 1920s when they were hunted out of existence, mainly by Japanese hunters. His ParaOlympIc friend Bandabi is an Asiatic black bear, of which there are only a small number left in South Korea, and probably bigger populations in North K. (There’s not a big choice of wildlife in Korea from which to choose a mascot)

How will the 7Olympics App cover the Ice Hockey? I’ll Probably take A Relay Of NBC’s Broadcasting Team for that!

same species.

it’s like saying is it a man or a human

Also I’m keen to see mark readings on the commentary. He’s probably one of the few good on the team.

World feed

I’ll recon they take the coverage provided by OBS on the world feed.

Also if they had to choose from the coverage of local broadcaster I’d hope they took CBC coverage over the NBC one, not just for the Hockey but in general.
