Olympics Coverage - History

It’s not her fault if the control room isn’t telling her what she’s meant to be throwing to and when. It’s a bit funny that you accuse another poster of having a cheap shot at Seven then bring this crap up again.

Anyway, lots of chopping and changing in the last hour or so which would be fine except that Mel said “you can continue watching the cycling on the app while we go back to the swimming” but of course it is nowhere to be found when I go looking for it there (and just as it is getting interesting! Now watching courtesy of the BBC). The app leaves a lot to be desired and the website isn’t loading.

I think Seven’s ambition is great but the execution doesn’t seem to be there just yet.

Reported that the ratings for the NBC coverage of the opening ceremony were the lowest since 1992 and down 28% from London.

TV Ratings: Rio Olympics Opening Ceremony Falls 28 Percent From London

If Rio’s opening ceremony had anything working against it, it was the lack of spectacle that the cash-strapped South American country would be able to put on. Beijing and London set a very high bar for theatricality during the last two Summer Olympics.

Working against the ratings draw was also the earlier go-time for the U.S. Olympic Team during the Parade of Nations. That came an hour earlier than in London. Ratings peaked at a 19.0 overnight between 10 and 10:15 p.m., when the U.S. team walked.

Down as though they might be, the Olympics are still quite massive. In the primetime hours between 8 and 11 p.m., the coverage averaged a 10.0 rating in the advertiser-favored demo of adults 18-49.

That’s where being a professional comes into play…you’re still able to speak English rather than fumbling over yourself.

But then again, you don’t know that. You’ve just made that up. Control room issue - maybe…maybe not. Her next piece throwing over to Todd was just as awkward.

Been flipping between the three channels all night. The coverage has been pretty good. They go straight back to live action after most breaks, and the breaks haven’t been as frequent or long as I expected. When they have gone to studio updates some have been a bit too long, though. As expected they are following every Aussie they can find, but I was impressed that they stuck with the road race ahead of Aus playing basketball.

Gotta love the Prime7 sponsor billboards:

"Prime7’s coverage of the Rio Olympic Games bought to you by…

NBN"

LOL!!! The smirks in Newcastle will be constant for these 2 weeks :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh yeah triton, this coverage shits all over what Nine gave us last time (let’s hope they never get near the Olympics again).

One thing though - bit odd to stick with a NZ v Spain women’s rugby match the whole time on 7mate while, for example, only showing some snippets of the men’s team gymnastics on 7. But otherwise they have been good with rotating their sports.

A note from Seven on the app issues:

“We know that some users continue to experience significant problems opening and accessing the app and live streams. Olympic Broadcasting Services in RIO is working on this now and we will be able to provide another update soon. Please accept our apologies and remember you are also able to access the live Rio Broadcast streams from Seven via the Plus7 and 7Tennis free apps”

The app should be org aided by streams rather than sport. They should’ve just had Rio 1,2 3 etc… And not worried what was on tv. Just played each event in full on one of the streams. This is what ten did with Sochi. It worked quite well. But it seems because the road race was on the main channel they didn’t show a seperate stream of it in full.

Lucky I had 8 channels on Foxtel last time and didn’t have to look at Nine.

It looks like they are showing the Matildas’ game on 7Two with no breaks.

I don’t like that 7mate and 7two don’t have hosts in studios. I find it tacky. I don’t like the stupid mega wall. Hosts are needed.

That’s right … Amanda Abate was a Brisbane/GC reporter, then went to Sydney. She then returned as a GC reporter, now hosts the GC news on weekends. Quite well known here in Qld.

Coverage is great so far. Well done 7.
I love the look, feel, multi channels etc. I can’t tell what’s virtual and what’s not on the main channel. I think the hosts are real, lol.
Only disappointment is the app, but they say they’re working on it. I guess given the logistics of what they’re trying to achieve, it’s understandable there’s teething problems.

Was it the floating Olympic Rings that tipped you off?

Yes Liz is doing the gymnastics with Steve Robilliard.

I heard this… Is this for seven or the world feed? Steve and Liz weren’t mentioned in any of sevens press releases and makes me think it’s for the world feed and because they’re both Australia seven just cheaped out and used them and saved themselves two commentators.

Prime time ratings are in…seven killed it. 7mate and 7two did very well. Both beat ten. Combined audience share of over 40%. Ten hit an all time prime time low it would seem.

Live coverage of opening ceremony did big numbers for 9am on a Saturday morning.

Ryan Phelan is also presenting sport updates.

However the metro audience of the opening ceremony live telecast was lower than London 2012, which began at around 5am AEST on Nine.

Last night, I’m pretty sure Queensland weekday presenter Bill McDonald was commentating the table tennis. Interesting!
