Olympic Games (general thread)

So if ir doesn’t have “replay” on screen, it may not actually be live, just not seen on 9 yet…

Yeah, I mean this day though, not early morning tomorrow, 8 hours away

Fair enough

Delayed. Better watching and curating your own coverage on Stan or 9Now.

Unfortunately Harry Garside has crashed out in the Round of 16 boxing after losing to Richard Kovacs (Hungary) 5-0 in the Men’s lightweight.

Oh man, that was tough to watch, poor Harry Garside and all the off ring stuff he’s already been through, that breaks the heart

A major upset in men’s water polo, with Australia beating Serbia 8-3 in their group match. Serbia is the two-time defending champion having won gold in both Rio and Tokyo. It’s Australia’s first win over Serbia in 18 attempts.

The Kiwis are on the medal table at last thanks to an outstanding gold-medal win against Canada from our Black Ferns Sevens. Well done!

Conversely it was a disappointing end to Australia’s rugby sevens campaign, with both men’s and women’s team missing out on the podium after losing their bronze medal matches. The women’s team was warm favourites especially after it won the SVNS world series two months ago.

Was feeling for the Boomers last night, but for mine, Canada was going to be 50/50 I truly thought, but a good first win and need to lift for our next game

How good were our Sharks in the men’s water polo, what an upset!

Meanwhile today… Well done Alexei Popyrin, defeating Stan Wawrinka overnight :raised_hands: First Australian since Hewitt at London 2012 through to the Olympics 3rd Round!

I realise we get enough tennis in this country and naturally is an easy second or third tier at the Games, but still hope media will report this a bit and we get around him, especially not having done that well in recent times, it’s a very solid effort. :australia: :green_circle::yellow_circle:

Scary moment for Australia’s Jack Robinson in Tahiti, with dangerous surf conditions in an already known wild surf, with the events being postponed for the day. Hence this morning’s 9Gem replays instead.

Probably joint favourites with NZ.

For Australia to not even get a medal in women’s sevens is astounding.

Thought President Harrison Ford and Air Force One were about to land at the equestrian  The extended opening theme music to that movie, which I’m sure is actually a classical orchestral piece, was over the PA as one of the event’s tracks. Instantly recognisable, though Seven’s old master tape used to remove it (including the opening credits) and skip to the parachute into the Russian compound scene.
