Australia’s Georgia Baker misses out on a medal in the Women’s Omnium, placing 5th (108).

This means that Jennifer Valente of USA gets the gold (144), Daria Pikulik of Poland claims silver (131), and Ally Wollaston of NZ snatches bronze (125).

Looks like China and USA will tie for Gold medal total of 40 but USA wins overall as they’ve got 100+ medals overall.

Overall pretty much everyone goes home a winner. Fantastic fortnight of competition in Paris.

Our best medal haul at an Olympics away from home and overall, our best Olympic Games since Sydney from an Australian point of view.

USA overtook China on the medal tally by narrowly winning the women’s basketball final, beating France by one point. Both teams finished on 40 gold medals, but USA had far more silver and bronze medals in total than China.

BBC’s Paris 2024 coverage will come to an end when the Closing Ceremony wraps up.

A very emotional and heartwarming closing montage made; from the music of Ed Sheeran’s “Photograph”.

Notice something? New Zealand was left out of the map during the Closing Ceremony. (Pic: Getty)

No room for NZ on world map.

It’s just a simple formation to depict an artistic outline of mostly the mainland’s of the 5 Olympic continents. Pretty much every smaller island/country in the world was also not on there for that reason. You could say a lot of Asian islands and so many other places were not there too, so I’m not sure why New Zealand is unique to call out.

Chaos at Closing Ceremony. The athletes invaded the stage and were not meant to.

Seems that it happens at nearly every closing ceremony.

After 16 days of competition, Paris says Farewell or In French they would say, Au Revoir. As Paris passes the baton to the next host city, Los Angeles, which will host the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad in 1433 days time.

While Team Australia had a big success in Paris, it could have claimed more medals if it performed better in team sports such as hockey, football and men’s basketball. That should be the focus of the post Games review when the athletes return home this week.
