Olympic Games (general thread)

I’d bin football (they never will). Doesn’t fit into the Olympic calendar of 16 days. Too much

The Olympics should represent the pinnacle event of each sport (at the international level) IMO - if that means a large cull, then so be it.

At least they added squash for 2028. How has squash never been in the Olympics? I would think Olympic gold will be the pinnacle for that sport.

I think Rowing officials in Australia have a lot to answer for. It’s been a disastrous campaign for Australian crews. To not win a gold medal this cycle is pretty bad for Australia. Their insistence on stacking the Men’s Eights has been an abject failure.

The lack of at least one rowing gold will impact our tally this time around to try and catch our gold haul from Tokyo.

Our worst rowing performance at an Olympic Games since Seoul 1988

To be fair, we have been making up for some of those with Jess Fox, plus chances in Women’s Beach Volleyball, and Men’s Tennis Doubles.k

It doesn’t make up for it at all?

At Tokyo, Australia won two gold and two bronze in the rowing - this time, Jess Fox has already won an additional gold medal this year (she only got one in 2020), and there have already been extra medals from cycling compared to 2020.

Australia doesn’t have a great male 1500 metre swimmer anymore :confused:like in the glory days of Hackett,Perkins ,etc, who were winning this event for a long time

Ohhh the tension at the tennis!! Epic gold medal win for the Aussies at Roland Garros and a great start to Day 8.

Now we head down to Marseilles for the final of windsurfing. Aussie male going for gold!!

Australia up to second on the medal tally. Unprecedented really for Day 8.

The US media still think they’re first as they are the only nation on earth that tally via total medals. They completely ignore the IOC official medal tally. Sometimes these Americans are just plain stupid.

And FOUR gold in a matter of hours plus a silver, when’s the last time that happened

Our doubles are underrated unlike the Matildas who were failures

Do they think we’re that stupid?

Saint Lucia had never won an Olympic medal, ever, until this evening.

The people of Castries gathered to watch Julien Alfred in the women’s 100m final.

You love to see it. 🇱🇨 pic.twitter.com/EjYgb6oDhe

3 years ago this morning, millions of Australians woke up on Sunday morning to watch newly 18 year old Australian Keegan Palmer from the Gold Coast (originally form the USA) take out the first ever gold medal in the skateboarding at Tokyo. It was exciting to watch and an awesome run! He’s now 21 and has still been doing wonders on the world circuit, he’ll take to the park again on Wednesday in our prime time

And a little Keegan 11 years ago on Sunrise, also Samantha Armytage’s first month on the show:
