Abbie Gelmi reveals stalker jailed after sexually explicit harassment

TV presenter Abbey Gelmi has gone public after putting her stalker behind bars, revealing the shocking impact of what it is like to be a woman in sports media.

The popular ABC Offsiders host bravely spoke of been bombarded and harassed with sexually explicit content and vile Facetime calls last year, before taking the matter to police.

Speaking up in an effort to educate and inform other women about new cyber laws around sexual harassment, Gelmi said the predator was now in prison.

She said the Victorian man had been targeting herself and other on-air female staff from her former network and given “the volume at which this person was harassing” their investigation led to his imprisonment.

Abbey tells the story of the harassment in the latest episode of Two Good Sports podcast with Georgie Tunny.

Abbey Gelmi breaks silence on TV axing: ‘Don’t worry about coming back’

At the time the split (Gelmi departing Seven in 2025) seemed amicable, but Gelmi is now setting the record straight.

“My son, Ollie, was born in November [2024], and in February [2025] I was sat down by Seven and told my contract wasn’t being renewed and ‘don’t worry about coming back’.

“That narrative isn’t something I’ve necessarily spoken about before,” she reveals.

“Not to say anything Seven did wasn’t above board, and I’m sure they had their reasoning, but the timing of it, given my son wasn’t yet three months old, was really difficult [Gelmi shares two children – Louis, three, and Oliver, now one – with former AFL star Kane Lambert].

“I was still on maternity leave, and it was just a really turbulent time.

“Not long afterwards was when the harassment started. When [the departure from Seven] happened, instead of owning that narrative, I gave the impression that the time had come for a new chapter. That was me protecting myself, but also processing a level of hurt and embarrassment I felt. In retrospect, I realise it had no reflection on my attributes and what I bring to the table professionally.”

Isn’t it illegal to sack someone if they are on maternity leave?

Only if the termination is directly related to them taking maternity leave. If the role is redundant or they are terminated for other reasons, then it is fair game.

Plus, it’s a contract not being renewed.
