Tonight’s GF coverage finished at 10.55pm AEDT.

Does that mean (where you are in Victoria) got the whole post match on 9 or 9Gem?

The whole post match was on 9 in Melbourne. Rambo started at 10.55

I was at a BBQ for the Grand Final last night.

Someone said to me that Andrew Johns apparently has an issue with Erin not being a qualified sports journalist (that she only studied journalism in general) - that’s what this is all about. I hadn’t heard that before…

Also noted yesterday that Erin was on the NRL coverage for the first half of yesterday’s coverage, and she was taken off and then Johns was put on.

In relation to media criticisms that Nine should have done more to defend Erin in this, if they had done that, then that probably makes Johns kind of look like the bad guy.

No one studies ‘sports journalism’. Erin Molan is a journalist and she specialises in sports reporting.

Perhaps Johns objects to Erin not having played NRL but ofcourse that’s a ridiculous argument as Ray Warren never played the game either.

Andrew Johns isn’t a ‘qualified sports journalist’. He’s a former player and now commentator. Does he think all such roles should be filled by ex players?

It was always the plan for James Bracey to anchor the grand final telecast, he is Nine’s lead sports anchor.

The whole saga has been quite messy and poorly handled. It would seem Andrew Johns may well be a petty egomaniac.

In other news… the ratings are in for the NRL Grand Final. All I can say is that it could have done better. However, Nine’s share’s are good. The Women’s Final and the State Championship so crack the top 20.
(Note: we can’t talk about numbers until its in the tv ratings page).

Erin interviewed a couple of Roosters players after the trophy presentation, while Johns was absent from the panel.

Some universities are now offering specialised sports journalism degrees, but this is a very recent development (ie. last two or three years). Either way, Johns has even less formal qualifications to stand on and needs to get over himself

Yes, however this limits peoples options if they cant find any work as a sports journo

There has to be more to it. Is Johns a qualified journalist?

Erin taking over as solo host after Fatty was axed on The Footy Show was probably the main reason. She should have refused and let that show die naturally.

Has Fatty worked with Erin since he was axed from The Footy Show?

I know there was a FNF match, Bulldogs Broncos in 2011 that aired on delay because of the royal wedding. Makes me think why did Nine simulcast the wedding on both Nine and 9gem rather than doing what Seven did(airing Swans/Blues on main channel and airing the wedding on 7mate.)

Lol!

You have too many brain cells left if you can remember that!

In Sydney the Swans vs Blues AFL match was televised live on 7TWO (I think) while Seven carried live coverage of the Royal Wedding. The AFL match was later replayed in full on the main channel.

I wonder how much of all that can be monetized? Given the release they must be making money off it somehow.

Do the social media sites allow broadcasters to monetize?

It isn’t Erin’s fault she was given the task of taking Fatty’s place on The Footy Show. That was a management call. The Footy Show really had run it’s course. You can only try to reinvent something so many times before it needs to be put out to pasture.

Personally I’d prefer something like 100% Footy on a more viewer friendly time. 10:30pm is too late for the average person.

They are really going after Erin Molan for some reason

Written by Jonathon Moran. If he said it was raining I would have to go outside to check. (An old line I’ve pinched from the great Stan Zemanek).
