Why isnt this a curtain raiser to one of the games in the main State of Origin series?

SOO has its own curtain raiser. I think it’s between NSW Residents and QLD Residents teams.

I panel this show at KOFM - Monday is Dan and Sterlo, Tuesday is Dan and Richard Freeman, Wednesday is Tony Squires and Kerry O’Keeffe, Thursday is Dan and the guys who are doing the footy and there’s no DSL on Friday because of the 6pm game.

Pity it wasn’t much of a game.

Brad Fittler as the city coach for today’s match. He’s still gonna do sideline commentary during match.

Mat Thompson calling City vs Country.

I’m guessing Scott Sattler and Pete Pstalis called the earlier Intrust game from Brisbane.

Which I think today’s game actually was. Now there are a couple of underage matches (16’s, 18’s and I think 20’s which used to be played where the pacific test was played) that act as curtain raisers pending surface conditions (they’ve canned it at the Olympic Stadium in past years, which from experience is slippery and chopped enough without rain).

##Indigenous Round

The Rabbitohs seeking revenge against the Tigers on Friday Night Football will headline Nine’s LIVE and FREE rugby league coverage as we celebrate Indigenous Round this week.

At the scene of Indigenous legend Cathy Freeman’s famous Olympic gold medal win – ANZ Stadium – the Rabbitohs will be primed for payback after the Tigers ran away with a 34-18 opening round win.

Nine’s rugby league expert, Brad Fittler, says: “A lot has changed since the last time these two met. The Tigers look to be benefiting from a simplified game plan while the Rabbitohs have been inconsistent.

“The representative round will have been valuable to the Rabbitohs and given Adam Reynolds an extra week to rest his niggling injuries, and the guys who did play in the rep round will be feeling refreshed after a week away from clubland.”

Fittler’s player to watch: “Damien Cook – he’s been outstanding for the Bunnies this year. He is one of the best dummy-half runners in the game, he sparks the Rabbitohs attack and will no doubt be a target for the Tigers.”

Tomorrow night on Thursday Night Football, Nine takes viewers to ANZ Stadium where the Bulldogs host the Cowboys. Premiership-winning hooker Jake Granville returns for the Cowboys, who will need his creativity to cover the loss of Johnathan Thurston.

Led by their fearless captain James Graham, the Bulldogs will welcome playmaker Matt Frawley into the starting lineup and they’ll be out to show they are a big threat in 2017 after so much publicity about their roster for next season.

On Sunday Afternoon Football, Nine will bring viewers unparalleled access to what promises to be a high-quality clash between the Roosters and Eels at Allianz Stadium.

The Roosters find themselves in fifth spot on the ladder after a solid start to the season. New recruit Luke Keary has gelled nicely in the halves with Mitchell Pearce, but the Roosters will have their work cut out against Eels playmaker Corey Norman, who has a Queensland Origin jersey in his sights.

The battle between the no-nonsense Eels forward pack and the Roosters pack with representative players Boyd Cordner, Aidan Guerra and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves should be very hostile.

A Sydney-specific promo for the football is currently airing on Nine:

Of course, it’s largely consistent of footage from games with the local teams and shots of Sydney Harbour. I also wonder if Queensland is getting a localised NRL promo of it’s own?

I also wonder if Newcastle would get it’s own localised promo, on NBN, with footage of the Knights and shots around Newcastle?

Sydney The Hime Of NRL ?

Sounds a bit rich when they keep showing the Broncos almost every Thursday or Friday night (yep, they’re on again this week too!) :frowning:

no we get the same as Sydney, saw it the other night.

That’s bad.

If they do one of these for Melbourne, they better have a big pixellated “SD” next to the 9GEM logo…

Nine will put GPS trackers on all players in the State of Origin games so they can provide more “datatainment” for viewers.

Saw a State of Origin ident played on 9HD Perth. Pretty sure that Perth will get the 3 games in HD this year.

Given that the start time of each game will be a bit after 6pm WST, I would be surprised if that happens.

They would probably have to flip 9HD and 9GEM to do that without affecting news.

Had a call from Channel 9 Perth asking whether Origin series is in SD or Hd. The female worker at Channel 9 told me that it won’t be on 9Gem. Instead it will be pushed to 9HD.

Nine Perth will have to show the news at 5.30pm (while SOO preview is on 9Gem) followed by the match at 6pm.

BEANIE FOR BRAIN CANCER ROUND

A very special weekend of rugby league will commence on Thursday Night Football when Nine kick starts Beanie for Brain Cancer Round LIVE and FREE across the nation tonight when the defending premier Sharks host the Cowboys.

Missing their star playmaker Johnathan Thurston the Cowboys will go into the clash as underdogs against the Sharks, who have created an opposing task for all travelling teams to beat them at home with their vocal crowd in The Shire creating an intimidating environment.

An exciting end-to-end match promises to play out with both sides boasting attacking firepower across the park and the extra incentive of making use of the last chance to impress State of Origin selectors before teams are named at the completion of the round.

Nine’s rugby league expert, Brad Fittler, says: “The Cowboys showed last week that they can win without Thurston and they will be ready for their chance at knocking off the defending premiers.

“A high error rate for the Sharks in recent weeks has affected them rediscovering their form of last season but if anything they have shown they can win tough and they will be pumped up in front of their home crowd tonight, if they can hold onto the ball they should win.”

Fittler’s player to watch: “Andrew Fifita – he always brings a lot of energy to the Sharks and his ability to offload makes him a real danger for the Cowboys, he also loves playing at Shark Park in front of the home crowd – expect him to have a big night.“

Tomorrow night on Friday Night Football, Nine’s Wide World of Sports takes viewers to Suncorp Stadium where the Broncos will host the Tigers. The Broncos are enjoying a solid start to the season and will be eager to topple the Tigers and accumulate before Origin period starts.

The Tigers will welcome Jack Littlejohn into the halves with Luke Brooks and will eager to score an away win to prove the future is bright under the guise of Ivan Cleary.

On Sunday Afternoon Football, Nine will bring viewers unparalleled access when the Bulldogs meet with the Roosters at ANZ Stadium.

The Roosters made light work of the Eels last week and will be out to further show they are a serious title threat when they meet with the Bulldogs – who have been capable of beating any team on any given day.

The halves combination of Mitchell Pearce and Luke Keary continues to go from strength to strength for the Roosters while the Bulldogs will be looking to follow the lead of their inspirational captain James Graham.
