9NOW PLAYER CAMS: NATHAN CLEARY AND RYAN PAPENHUYZEN
The two most successful clubs of a generation will collide in the ultimate showdown, when the Penrith Panthers and Melbourne Storm meet in the 2024 NRL Grand Final - exclusive, live and free on Channel 9HD and 9Now from 6.30pm AEDT on Sunday, October 6.
Nine’s Wide World of Sports will celebrate Grand Final Day with 16 hours of wall-to-wall live coverage of rugby league’s biggest day, culminating in the exclusive broadcast of the NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final.
The pen is in the hands of the Panthers as they continue to rewrite history, the first team in 53 years to qualify for five successive Grand Finals, when ironically they take on the club who dealt them a heartbreaking defeat in the first year of their grand final run in 2020.
At the heart of the Panthers is their superstar halfback Nathan Cleary, who is on a mission to send his halves partner in crime Jarome Luai, and the fearless forward James Fisher-Harris out with a premiership.
Standing in their path is runaway Minor Premiers, the Melbourne Storm, with the electric attacking talents of Cameron Munster, Ryan Papenhuyzen and Jahrome Hughes ready to strike at any moment.
Grand Final Day starts live from 7.00am AEDT at Accor Stadium in Sydney with Weekend Today, which will be followed by Wide World of Sports at 10.00am AEDT and the Sunday Footy Show at 11.00am AEDT.
On-field action begins with the NRL State Championship Grand Final at 1.20pm AEDT, between the Newtown Jets and Brisbane’s Norths Devils, before the NRLW Grand Final between the Sharks and Roosters at 3.55pm AEDT.
9Now will take fans further into the action with dedicated player cameras following Nathan Cleary and Ryan Papenhuyzen.
Wide World of Sports will have the best in the business covering a blockbuster Grand Final Day, hosted by James Bracey, Danika Mason, Emma Lawrence and Marlee Silva. The best experts in commentary are headed up by rugby league Immortal Andrew Johns with premiership-winning captains Cameron Smith, Darren Lockyer, Johnathan Thurston, Brad Fittler, and Paul Gallen in tow, plus premiership winners Billy Slater, Phil Gould AM and Sam Thaiday, and women’s internationals Ruan Sims and Allana Ferguson.
This unrivalled lineup of commentators, boasting 48 Grand Final appearances as players and coaches combined, will provide viewers with insight and analysis befitting the biggest day of the season.
Calling the live action will be Mat Thompson, Brenton Speed and Peter Psaltis.
And hang around after the game as we take viewers into the dressing sheds with the winning team to join the celebrations.

Further to reports on Ben Dobbin
Unable to talk and paralysed for life - that's the sobering reality Nine's rugby league insider Ben Dobbin faced, after a horrific bike crash.

He swerved to avoid a snake, before clipping another cyclist's wheel - sending him headfirst into a pole. #9News pic.twitter.com/yZmyR7t8Fa
That line-up graphic is incorrect. It’s only the NRL GF that Nine has exclusive live rights for - Fox League can show (and are showing) both the State Championship and NRLW GFs live.
Nine will be hoping tonight is a close contest, unlike last week’s AFL GF, including an interstate team from a non-traditional territory as well which usually boosts numbers. Could go very close to or beat that magic 4m figure, possibly looking for another record bvod audience too.
Penrith could create history tonight, winning 4 premierships in a row! Something even the dynasty of Brisbane in the AFL 20 years ago tried but failed to achieve and Hawthorn weren’t able to make 8 years ago.
Similar to how the Storm delayed the start of the Penrith dynasty, the Sydney Swans delayed the start of the Hawks’ in 2012 with (what could consider to be) an upset 10-point win in the GF.
For the first time You can watch the NRLW Grand Final LIVE via Spidercam, Player Cam and Coaches Cam in Stunning HD on 9Now. This means you won’t need to put up with any ads or Commentary.
But then you’d be watching the game via Spidercam, Player Cam and Coaches Cam.
Good opportunity for network promotion for Q4 and 2025 for Nine tonight, as well as any new surprises, like with the recent Olympics, as Melbourne and regional Vic (plus maybe some more from other AFL territories like Adelaide, Perth, Tas, regional Wa and other remote rehions) will have more viewers both tuning-in due to the Melbourne Storm. Hopefully staying too, possibly an extra 100-200k+ in average. Let alone local and national advertisers. Rather than if it were an all-Nsw game or Nsw vs Qld teams. Though no Qld teams this year might see audience down a bit vs Broncos.
I’d think more Melbourne Cup obviously, plus the Stan Bali drama, a new or returning show or two during and after The Block, perhaps Carols by Candlelight, other sports like golf, maybe a first teaser for the ‘summer of tennis’ including Aus Open and even Married and 2025 overview. I’d also expect more pushes for Today, Nine News and ACA.
This is the best commentary offering Nine have?
Nine (and Seven for that matter with the AFL) really take the piss having the GF exclusively when they serve up this slop.
Watching the NRL GF through Spidercam, player Cam and Coach Cam so you don’t need to put up with ads, and the voiceover guy doing promos, and also Mat Thompson screaming over the top. This is the most exciting Rugby League night of the year on Channel Nine.
Sure, it’s the best way to watch it if you either a. don’t want to see 99% of what is happening or b. enjoy motion sickness.
Cross to Penrith after try; didn;t see one for Melbourne though apparently there are no live sites in Melbourne.
So Nine axed Gus for concerns over conflicts of interest but retain Cameron Smith and Billy Slater?
