MEN’S STATE OF ORIGIN II:

EXCLUSIVE ON CHANNEL 9HD AND 9NOW
NEW SOUTH WALES V QUEENSLAND
7.00PM AEST WEDNESDAY, JUNE 26
SPECIAL GUEST COMMENTATOR: CAMERON MUNSTER

Australia’s biggest stadium will host Australia’s biggest sporting rivalry when Ampol State of Origin II is exclusive, live and free from the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday, June 26, on Channel 9 and 9Now at 7.00pm AEST.

Billy Slater’s Queensland Maroons can seal a third straight series under his guidance with victory at the MCG, where the stage is set for their captain, Daly Cherry-Evans, to unleash the electrifying stars “Reece Lightning”, Reece Walsh, and “the Hammer”, Hamiso Tabui-Fidow.

After a crushing first-game loss in Sydney, it’s win or bust for the New South Wales Blues. In their time of need they will call on the magic of two Mitchells: Latrell Mitchell and Mitchell Moses.

Big in both stature and profile, don’t miss Nine’s exclusive sit-down interview in the pre-game coverage with Latrell Mitchell, who breaks his own media ban to give an insight into his journey back to a Sky Blue NSW jersey.

The Wide World of Sports exclusive Origin coverage will feature special guest commentary from injured Melbourne Storm and Queensland playmaker Cameron Munster.

Hosted by James Bracey, the biggest and best names in the game will form the commentary team for Origin II, with Origin legends Cameron Smith, Andrew Johns, Brad Fittler, Johnathan Thurston, Phil Gould, Darren Lockyer, Paul Vautin, Paul Gallen and Allana Ferguson on hand to dissect all the action.

On the sideline, Danika Mason is joined by Fittler and Lockyer, with Emma Lawrence outside the venue to soak up the pre-match atmosphere at the MCG.

In commentary for Origin II is Mathew Thompson, who will be joined by two of the greatest NSW and Queensland representatives ever, Andrew Johns and Cameron Smith.

The Today Show will kick off game day from Federation Square in Melbourne, where Karl Stefanovic, Sarah Abo, Brooke Boney, Alex Cullen and Tim Davies are live from 6.00am to capture all the excitement and build-up to Origin II.

9News Queensland will also be at the heart of the action, with sports presenter Jonathan Uptin hosting live from the MCG on game night. Sport reporter Adam Jackson will join the Maroons’ camp, delivering the latest Origin updates for Queenslanders.

ARIA Award-winning band The Temper Trap will rock a packed-out MCG before kick-off, and basketball legend Lauren Jackson will check in before the Opals’ Paris 2024 Olympics campaign begins next month.

9Now will stream the game live, with three additional second-screen streams to choose from, ensuring viewers don’t miss a thing:

  • Player Cam QLD – Reece Walsh
  • Player Cam NSW – Latrell Mitchell “Trellavision”
  • Spidercam – An eagle-eye view of play to take you even closer to the action

After the game you can catch up with 9Now mini-match for all the best bits in a 20-minute breakdown.

I agree here. Peter Psaltis and Danika Mason have been good hires by Nine. It doesn’t hurt that Peter did matches for 4BC for years in QLD before joining Nine.

I’ll say this, Danika Mason and James Bracey are the best hosts Nine has had since Ken Scutlife. Sterlo was decent as a host, and Cameron Williams was ok too.

THE DECIDER: WOMEN’S STATE OF ORIGIN GAME III

HISTORIC CLASH EXCLUSIVE LIVE AND FREE
ON CHANNEL 9 AND 9NOW
THURSDAY, JUNE 27, 7.30PM AEST

The Ampol Women’s State of Origin series is on the line and the only place to see the outcome is on Channel 9 and 9Now, exclusive, live and free for Game III this Thursday from 7.30pm AEST.

In the first ever decider for the Women’s series, the New South Wales Sky Blues and Queensland Maroons will wage war in Townsville where the 2024 series champions will be crowned.

The Maroons saved the series with a last-gasp field goal in Game II, and veteran Queensland captain Ali Brigginshaw plus skilful backs Lauren Brown and Tamika Upton will lead the charge to lift the shield in front of the devoted Maroons faithful in Far North Queensland.

The Sky Blues will roll out a team of the biggest names in NRLW when Millie Elliot, Kezie Apps, Jaime Chapman, Emma Tonegato and Isabelle Kelly get their second chance to wrap up the series after dominating Game I.

NSW Sky Blues forward Millie Elliot said: “To be able to play game three in a sell-out in Townsville is a huge thrill. A three-game Women’s Origin series has been a long time coming, and to have so many people invested in the decider is very exciting. Queensland snatched victory from us in Newcastle last time out so we want to return the favour.”

Nine’s exclusive coverage, available on Channel 9HD or to stream on 9Now, will be hosted by Emma Lawrence and Danika Mason, assisted by rugby league experts Phil Gould, Johnathan Thurston, Allana Ferguson, Sam Thaiday and commentator Peter Psaltis.

Queensland officials have described the decision to use Joseph Suaalii’s illegal Origin I tackle on Reece Walsh as part of the promotion for game two as “inappropriate and totally wrong”.

Ten seconds into the 50-second ad, slow-motion footage of Suaalii lining up Walsh appears. The actual moment Walsh is hit in the head is not in the advertisement.

Queensland Rugby League chairman Bruce Hatcher said he could not understand why an illegal tackle that ended the night of one of the game’s brightest stars had been included in the promotion.

A second promotion, targeting the Maroons’ market, finishes with the voiceover: “Queensland, let’s finish this.”

And a third commercial hails the bravery shown by NSW to compete as long as they did with 12 men, while labelling the Suaalii send-off as “the twist that left Australia in a state of shock”.

Interesting choice of Andy Lee to open the Origin coverage, obviously being a Victorian was the key here with the game at the MCG.

Got a chuckle at the “Shut Up Gus” shirt in the background!

Watching the Spider Cam, Player cam through 9Now so I don’t need to put up with any ads or commentary. I wonder whether there are any Victorian sideline callers (like Alicia Muling) for tonight’s game at the MCG?
Great to see the State of Origin at the MCG for the first time since 2018!

It’s a shame the Spider Cam is at least 3-4 tackles ahead of the 9 feed on 9now.

I mean this in the nicest possible way - but I don’t know how you watch games in full from those camera angles.

NRL ON NINE: ROUND 18

THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTY: EELS V RABBITOHS
FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTY: BRONCOS V PANTHERS

NRL on Nine this week is all about redemption and the chase for a spot in the top-eight, with three games live and free on Channel 9HD and 9Now.

At Suncorp Stadium for Friday Night Footy, the Broncos, bolstered by the return of State of Origin stars Payne Haas, Patrick Carrigan and Reece Walsh, meet their 2023 Grand Final adversaries, the Panthers, who are smarting after losing to the Cowboys last weekend.

The defending premiers welcome back NSW Blues representatives: Brian To’o, Jarome Luai, Dylan Edwards and Liam Martin who they will look to for a challenging away win.

NRL on Nine will be live on the ground with host James Bracey, joined by Brad Fittler and Johnathan Thurston, Paul “Fatty” Vautin, Cameron Smith and Peter Psaltis, while Darren Lockyer and Danika Mason provide sideline updates.

But first up, Thursday Night Footy will ignite CommBank Stadium with the Eels facing the resurgent Rabbitohs. Can Mitchell Moses replicate his State of Origin magic to lift the Eels up the ladder, or will the Rabbitohs, led by skipper Cameron Murray, another Origin star, extend their winning streak to five?

Wrapping up the weekend, Sunday Footy comes from GIO Stadium, where the Newcastle Knights, with barnstorming centre Bradman Best, face Ricky Stuart’s Canberra Raiders who are desperate for a win after dropping their last three home games.

Wide World of Sports, followed by The Sunday Footy Show at 11.00am, will have all the comprehensive analysis and latest highlights for NRL Round 18.

According to a poorly worded article by that appalling journalist from News Corp, Phil Rothfield, nine have signed Triple M’s Anthony Maroon as a play by play caller of the NRL for the three weeks off the Olympics whilst Mat Thompson and Brenton Speed are in Paris. Peter Psaltis will still call the NRL whilst the games are on and will also call the Olympic shooting off tv screens in Sydney.

Good get with Anthony Maroon. Even if it is just for three weeks during the Olympics.

Better than having Sterlo doing it in 2012.

How was it poorly worded?

The syntax was all wrong and it was poorly structured. Lacked cohesion and logical flow in the points he was making.

Maroon makes sense here. He’ll be ten times better that Sterlo was in 2012, not to mention his MMM experience already makes him a better choice than Sterlo was during London 2012.

Ah right - I didn’t notice anything too bad when I read it late last night when I posted.

Maybe it’s been edited or maybe I am stupid :joy:
