Surely they can take the host broadcaster commentary? They should do that for the Aussie matches too.
If that is the case, then that sucks, and that really detracts from the coverage.
We can already see what the commentators see, having commentary done from the ground enables commentators to see what has happened in back play that may have resulted in a penalty for instance eg. late tackle. Or whether the defence is really back the 10 metres or where there is gap out wide.
Same goes for any off the ball activities that might have disrupted play eg. a streaker perhaps - though unlikely to happen in the north of England at this time of the year!
Agree!
Would be very hard to commentate when not at the ground!
Taking the local feed and commentary for the England v New Zealand match
itâs half-time now in the England v New Zealand match.
Yvonne Sampson, alongside Gus Gould, hosted the pre-game show in Sydneyâs studio. When the game was about to start, they crossed over to some English commentator from England.
As soon as the half-time whistle blew, they crossed back to the Sydney studio for game talk.
While the RL is on 9GEM there is a 4:3 aspect movie on 9HD (in Brisbane) .
Theyâd not have English commentary as everyone complains. But I also donât like commentary done from the studio
Is there a reason why theyâre showing Eng v Aus on 9GEM and not Nine/Nine HD? Going back to their old habits only this time GEM is not HD. Who makes these moronic decisions?
England v Australia should be on the main channel, especially at 1am.
Home shopping takes precedence it seems. But you would have thought they could have skipped the infomercials for one night at leastâŚ
The game would clash with primetime programming in Perth?
Show it on 9GEM in Perth. The rest of us shouldnât have to suffer.
Four Nations Final is live on 9HD (Eastern States only)
Bugger I wish I had seen this, Iâm sure I saw the Four Nations listed in the EPG for 9GEM Illawarra when I set my recorder earlier in the week! Itâs the only Australian match I didnât get a recording of! Oh well, live and learn!
Yeah it was a late change due to the mass outrage of no HD. Nine finally did the right thing and moved the game to the main channel.
The NRL released the 2017 fixture this morning including dates and times for the first 20 rounds. I reckon the introduction of Friday 6pm game (replacing Monday night football) on Fox Sports will put a further dent into the FTA ratings for the later clash which used to be the marquee game on Nine.
Has the Suncrop double header always been on FOX?
I think that Nine may try to make the marquee game a Thursday Night rather than a Friday Night, much like the NFL has changed the marquee national game from a Monday Night to a Sunday Night about 10 years ago. I just hope that there arenât too many 6PM games that go into GPET, we may have the later game starting closer to 8:15 than 7:50.
As for the breakdown, hereâs whatâs being covered Round by Round. City-Countryâs finale is in Mudgee BTW, not sure if thatâs a tribute to Ken Sutcliffe or not, probably clutching at straws there.

Rounds 21-26 To Be Determined, thought that was going to be abolished as well.
I think not having Saturday night games & Foxtel simulcasts will continue to hurt Nineâs ratingsâŚ
I thought Nine paid more to secure Saturday night games (at least originally) for NRL?
Foxtel demanded they get Saturday night back from Nine, and they did.
Think the Sunday Origin game begins in 2018 when the new TV rights deal âofficiallyâ begins
