NRL coverage coming out of the Sydney news studio due to the Ashes coverage using the sport studio. Not the first time it has been used, but it does look a bit better than last time:

I actually like this set-up - to me it’s more visually appealing than the set they use for the Footy Show.

Though when Nine covered the 2019 Ashes series, they used the GTV news studio.

Too much greys in that set, not much colours been used

Melbourne will get another Storm game on the main channel on Friday 30 June when it’s Storm v Panthers. Interesting strategy aimed at improving the team’s profile. Meanwhile the third day of the 2nd test will be on 9Gem that night. On Seven, it’s Sydney V Geelong in the AFL.

According the the promos “the greatest game 2 of all time”. NSW and QLD get very different v/o though - “The blues are playing for a miracle; the ruthless maroons will give 'em hell” vs “The tougher it gets the harder we hit them”.

Needed to add “each week” or something, makes it seem like they are showing a total of 5 games. (plus Broncos twice?)

Is that all the games?

Alana says that in the v/o. “10 teams, 5 matches each week, in prime time.”

I know, but if you didn’t catch the VO you’d think it’s 5 games all up.

Beanie Round on Nine

The game will unite to take the fight to brain cancer when Beanie Round is live and free with three feisty fixtures, beginning Thursday at 7.30pm on the 9Network and 9Now.

With survival rates only increasing by one per cent in the past 35 years, the Mark Hughes Foundation has set the goal of raising $3.5 million for brain cancer research this week, urging footy fans to buy a special beanie for the cause. DONATE OR BUY A MHF BEANIE TODAY

The Sharks and Dragons local derby fires up Beanie Round on Thursday Night Footy from Shark Park in the Sutherland Shire.

All eyes will be on Dragons skipper Ben Hunt after a dramatic week of headlines, however the Sharks, with Nicho Hynes out to keep his name in contention for Origin III, will be showing no mercy against their crosstown rivals.

In the game of the round on Friday Night Footy, the Storm and Panthers welcome back their Origin stars for this top-of-the-table clash.

Cameron Munster, Brian To’o, Stephen Crichton and Liam Martin have all been named for the game, which Melbourne viewers will see on Channel 9.

Sunday Arvo Footy pits the Manly Sea Eagles against the Sydney Roosters. Both teams’ finals chances are hanging by a thread, making this a desperation game that could decide the fate of the loser in the closest season in years.

The heart and soul of the Sea Eagles, Jake Trbojevic, will make his long awaited return from injury, while the Roosters welcome back young gun Joseph Sua’ali’i to boost their backline.

Don’t miss the pre-game coverage from 3.00pm when the Mark Hughes Foundation trek arrives at the ground with Mark Hughes after their 150-kilometre walk from Newcastle to Brookvale for brain cancer fundraising and awareness.

Former AFL star (and Fox FM breakfast co-host) Brendan Fevola did a pre-recorded intro for Storm v Panthers tonight, looking back at the past three decades of rugby league in Melbourne.

Pathetic biased anti-Storm commentary from Phil Gould tonight as usual.

Gould shouldn’t be commentating on Penrith or Bulldogs games. I think there is a conflict of interests there.

Not much better on Fox Sport Coverage either!!!.

I’m surprised they’ve put it on the main channel in Victoria. I know they usually do put Storm games on Nine these days but I think the Ashes is popular enough to justify bumping the NRL in this instance.

Will be interesting to see the ratings tomorrow… will 9Gem outrate 9 in Melbourne?
