Peter Sterling brefly joined the panel prior to kick off, as a fan. He was pumped for tonights game
Didnât know they streamed the spider cam on Facebook.
Channel 9 WA ended its telecast at 6:55 PM (AWST) and headed straight to news. There was no post match celebration talk. What they could have done is they should put the post match celebration talk on Gem or Go! Into WA. And to make matters worse thereâs no separate coverage of the post match celebrations on 9Now.
Glad someone mentioned this, Iâm not an NRL fan but I follow my AFL very closely and the production of tonightâs game was brilliant. Commentary was good too which helped the one-sided nature of the match. Danika Mason is an underrated asset at Nine, nice seeing her career develop.
Agree with all and yes, Danika is a star.
The panellists said goodbye at 10.50, and went to a highlights package for the 2022 season. The actual telecast finished at 10.57pm aedt.
See you all next year.
I went to a friends place for the Grand Final, and they had 9Now hooked up to a projectorâŚ. and lo and behold, it worked flawlessly during the main game! I was a bit nervous when I saw their set up after all the 7Plus issues for the AFL Grand Final.
Good to see the Round One draw released. The remainder of the draw will be released later in the week.
Thursday night 8pm, Friday 8pm, and Sunday 4pm games will be on Nine (the rest are on Fox Sports). Good to see the new club The Dolphins have their first ever match televised on Nine (Sunday game).
I assume that the Saturday night games on Nine will only occur towards the end of the season, like the last couple of years?
Donât think it has changed, so it will probably continue.
Interesting to see each of these games is a NSW team v a QLD or VIC team
The 2023 NRL fixture was released at 11am AEDT today. It includes the return of a pre-season challenge including St George Illawarra against UK Super League side St Helens at Wollongong on Saturday night, February 11.
The Round 1 fixture is as per reported in SMH on Tuesday, however the venue of Warriors-Knights clash has been changed to Sky Stadium in Wellington.
Next year will also see the return of three Wednesday State of Origins for the first time since 2017. Game 1 of Origin will be held at Adelaide Oval on May 31, game 2 in Brisbane on June 21 and game 3 in Sydney on July 12.
Due to the impact of FIFA Womenâs World Cup in July and August, NRL matches will be held at SCG, The Gabba (three Broncos home games), Cairns, Sunshine Coast, Tamworth, Perth (a Saturday doubleheader at Optus Stadium in Round 23), and in New Zealand, from Round 20 to Round 25. Venues for Stormâs home games against Penrith in round 18 and Parramatta in round 22 are yet to be determined, with AAMI Park to host World Cup matches.
A few points about the NRL schedule:
- Good to see return of three Wednesday Origin matches for the first time since 2017. Iâm not a fan of having the Origin match on a Sunday night. I would like to see State of Origin start time pushed earlier to 7:50PM rather than at 8:10pm. An 8:10pm start is too late for fans.
- Why do the Brisbane Broncos have to play at the Gabba Stadium while there is a soccer game being scheduled at the Suncorp Stadium during 2023 FIFA Womenâs World Cup? I have a feeling that this might impact a few Brisbane Lions games.
- Itâs good to see Perth host a doubleheader game on Saturday. It looks as though that the HBF Park will host the two NRL matches (as there will be an AFL being scheduled at Perth Stadium).
- I think the Melbourne Storm might have to play down in Tasmania (as the AAMI Park is unavailable due to the Womenâs FIFA World Cup). I cannot see Docklands Stadium host a few Melbourne Storm games during the World Cup. Some clubs will still use Docklands Stadium to host AFL matches.
The NRL fixture says the doubleheader will be held at Optus Stadium (Dolphins v Knights then Rabbitohs v Sharks) on August 5.
That game is Australia v Nigeria on July 27. I agree itâs not a good look scheduling a Broncos game against the soccer. Traffic in Brisbane CBD will be horrendous.
Now that the dates have been known, the AFL will either have the Lions playing away on those three dates, or play at The Gabba the day after the Broncos NRL games.
Most of the media talk this morning in Brisbane has been about the 24 March game when the Dolphins go up against the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium for the first time. The âBattle of Brisbaneâ is the name being used.
Because itâs the only other stadium in Brisbane that could hold adequate crowd capacity?
It is only three games and Iâm certain the AFL/Lions would have been consulted before the fixtures were booked.
And St Helens playing Penrith in the World Club Challenge (which will be on Nine).
Sky Stadium. Westpac left a few years ago.
The NRL will cry because it didnât get the no-opposition treatment they usually get, but this is really cool to see the reaches of the country getting top-tier matches, especially in Perth as they push for the 18th license.
So, the Storm have 2 home games with TBA venues, both on Friday nights, which pretty much guarantees that either Docklands or the MCG isnât being used. Even if the MCG is too big and Docklands is being used, Kardina Park in Geelong would be available.
Absolutely. Itâs fine on Saturdays, but on Wednesday it needs to be earlier so that younger fans can watch the whole game before going to bed for school the next morning.
Huh? You think they could play at the same time at the same place? I do agree it is bad scheduling to go up against the match.
How? The Lions will have priority over use of the ground, especially as they will lose it for the Olympics and redevelopment. They wonât be affected by this, other than maybe having to train at their other base for a few days.
Who said there will be an AFL game at Optus? The NRL is being played there.
Well yeah, Marvel will host AFL games, but they already announced didnât they that they will play games there. GMHBA Stadium in Geelong will get some games, yeah maybe one in Tassie but most likely regional AFL ovals and A-Leagues venues will get matches.
