NRL on Nine

This Saturday’s (August 27) match between Broncos and Roosters will be shown live on 9Gem around Australia, due to the main channel’s broadcast of Wallaroos v Black Ferns rugby union test at the same time.

I saw Nine Melbourne have Storm vs Roosters on the main channel this Friday night, taking advantage of the weeks break in the AFL.

Seven Melbourne have the AFLW on instead… I’ll be interested to see the ratings on Saturday.

NRL Premiership contenders collide in electrifying round 24 on Nine

The two premiership powerhouses of the last decade, the Storm and Roosters, will electrify Friday Night Footy this week to herald six big NRL and NRLW games available Live and Free on Channel 9 and 9Now.

Live on Channel 9HD in Melbourne, Storm maestro Cameron Munster will be out to provide the lightning strike that halts the Roosters’ late-season surge of six wins in a row at AAMI Park.

But the red-hot Roosters have their own lightning in a bottle. The No.1 player in the world right now, captain James Tedesco, is in scintillating form after their demolition of the Tigers last week, one of the biggest wins in NRL history.

At risk of slipping out of the finals race, the Broncos must get a handle on Mitchell Moses and the Eels in Brisbane tonight on Thursday Night Footy from 7.30pm in Adam Reynolds’ 250th NRL game.

The Cowboys will have a king-size assignment on Saturday Night Footy from 7.00pm: trying to lasso Rabbitohs superstar Latrell Mitchell as both teams look to claim a big scalp and send an ominous warning to their rivals ahead of the finals.

The NRLW enters Round 2 with two games on 9GemHD. First up, the only clubs to win a premiership in the competition so far, the Roosters and Broncos, from 1.00pm Saturday, before the Titans v Knights NRL/NRLW double-header on Sunday Footy from 3.00pm.

The best commentary team in the game will cover all the action, with rugby league legends Andrew Johns, Cameron Smith, Billy Slater, Johnathan Thurston, Sonny Bill Williams, Paul Vautin, Brad Fittler, Paul Gallen, and premiership-winning coach Phil Gould weighing in on the biggest moments right across Round 24.

Then on Monday Night on Channel 9, 100% Footy hosted by James Bracey with Phil Gould and Paul Gallen wraps up the rugby league action with the latest news and the big talking points. Catch-up is available on 9Now or via podcast.

Tonight’s Rabbitohs-Cowboys match is hosted from Sydney’s Studios, despite the match being played at Sydney’s Accor Stadium (aka Stadium Australia).

Probably because FOX are the host broadcasters for the Saturday game.

Nine’s scoreboard was taken off for about 10 minutes when this -00:10 time error appeared.

But isn’t Nine supposed to be the host broadcaster of the last 3 7:30 Saturday games?

No, Nine only produces the Thursday night, Friday night, and Sunday afternoon games.

He hasn’t died yet, has he?

I think the documentary is being done because he retired earlier this year.

Channel 9 the only place to see every NRL Finals game live

  • FOUR NRL FINALS PLUS THREE NLRW GAMES LIVE AND FREE THIS WEEKEND ON CHANNEL 9 AND 9NOW

  • PANTHERS V EELS BATTLE OF THE WEST ON FRIDAY NIGHT

The premiers from Penrith, circling Sharks, Cowboys riding high, electric Eels, Melbourne’s Munster magic, red-hot Roosters, the Bunnies big guns and Ricky’s Raiders – will all combine in the only place you can watch every NRL Finals game, Channel 9, beginning at 7.00pm on Friday.

NRL on Nine will showcase four huge NRL finals, three NRLW games and seven hours of Live Sunday coverage from the new Allianz Stadium, including the Sunday Footy Show, in the ultimate feast of finals footy for week one.

Hosted by James Bracey, the best line-up of rugby league commentators in the game will assemble on Nine’s Wide World of Sports to cover every second of the action.

Rugby league Immortal Andrew Johns, premiership-winning captains Cameron Smith, Johnathan Thurston, Brad Fittler, Paul Vautin, Paul Gallen, Darren Lockyer, and multiple premiership winners Billy Slater, Sonny Bill Williams and Phil Gould AM will provide the best insight and analysis for every NRL finals game.

In commentary, Mat Thompson, Peter Psaltis, Chris Warren and Ruan Sims will call the action with Danika Mason, Allana Ferguson and Emma Lawrence on the sidelines.

On Friday night at 7.00pm, it’s the battle of Sydney’s west Part III – Panthers v Eels, firing up NRL finals footy for 2022. The Eels are two from two against the minor premiers this season, but can they do it in a Qualifying Final when it matters most in front of a boisterous Panthers home crowd? A crowd buoyed by the return of their best player, Nathan Cleary, after a five-week suspension.

On Saturday, a finals double-header begins from 5.00pm, when the Melbourne Storm pull out all their tricks at home with the magic of Cameron Munster, up against the Canberra Raiders inspired by Jack Wighton. The Raiders roll into AAMI Park as the underdogs who finished in eighth spot on the ladder, now on a mission to take down the masters of September success in an elimination final.

Straight after this game, at 7.00pm, the Cowboys and Sharks wage war for the right to a week off and a ticket straight to the preliminary final. Former Sharks premiership winners Valentine Holmes and Chad Townsend will be riding into town as Cowboys, tasked with silencing the ‘Up Up Cronulla’ victory song from Nicho Hynes and his hungry Sharks.

On Sunday afternoon from 3.00pm, the hatred level redlines again at Allianz Stadium for a second straight week when the Roosters meet the Rabbitohs, also an elimination final – the other win-or-bust encounter.

James Tedesco’s Roosters – red-hot after eight wins on the trot – need to take down the Rabbitohs big guns Latrell Mitchell, Cameron Murray and Cody Walker again to keep their premiership dream alive.

Adding to the action, every NRLW game of Round 4 will be available Live and Free this weekend. A Saturday NRLW double-header in Melbourne from 1.00pm places the Titans v Eels and Broncos v Dragons ahead of the two men’s NRL finals – all on 9Now, Channel 9HD and 9GemHD.

Then on Sunday, following the Sunday Footy Show live from Allianz Stadium at 11.00am, the Roosters and Knights NRLW match is live from 1.00pm, leading straight into the last NRL finals game of week one between the Roosters and Rabbitohs.

So Melbourne is meant to be getting 3 of 4 finals live on the main channel? (the exception being the Friday).

Which means the Melbourne Saturday Nine News bulletin is moved to 4.30pm.

If that is correct, that’s a great outcome for the NRL. Seven doesn’t do this for the AFL in NSW or QLD unless the local teams are playing.
