NRL on Nine

NBL promoting

It is interesting that the NRL would allow a rival sports league to promote its competition at half time during its Grand Final telecast. I know Pippen was on the AFL Grand Final broadcast too, but at least that was a few hours before the actual game. Nine could have used that half time slot for analysis of the actual game.

They would have been paid to.

I don’t think the NBL is really a rival as such, it’s got a much smaller profile in Australia than the NRL has.

Interesting he appeared on both Seven’s AFL GF day coverage and Nine’s NRL GF, was it a publicity push from NBL/NBA rather than the other two codes coincidentally requesting him because he happened to be available?

Subtle dig at 7plus’ live streaming figure of 441,000 for the AFL Grand Final on Saturday.

Yes that’s what it was: a paid ad.

There was a random performance at Half Time that wasn’t shown. They randomly cut to it and then cut away. I’m guessing that may have been them.

Choirboys fans will be disappointed after it had been promoted on their FB page.

Yep. Another NRL fail. lol.

A shame that shows like 100% Footy (or even The Sunday Footy Show) are finished for the year. No shows to talk about the three Grand Finals yesterday (NRL, Women’s and State Final). And to talk about the upcoming International competitions.

Nine had The AFL Footy Show yesterday to discuss the previous days Final.

Nine - the home of NRL, with no premise. While Nine has Footy Classified twice a week, and the Sunday Footy Show, and has no exclusive rights to the AFL. While Nine has 100% Footy, which has ZERO promotion in Sydney and Brisbane.

Yeah, if Nine could get the AFL at the expense of the NRL, I think they would do that in a heartbeat.

But likely wouldn’t have bothered if the NRL one wasn’t on (as it was; game day coverage didn’t start until 1pm). On the flipside, they may have extended Sports Sunday instead.

The flipside also exists though; 100% Footy would only be a podcast if not for the space in the northern sched left behind by the delay of Footy Classified and Nine know it. The level of fanaticism in Sydney to support that is just not to the level of Brisbane, let alone Melbourne.

I think you’re right. There is a gap in Nine’s schedule, because of Footy Classified in the southern cities, hence why 100% Footy is there. The tv ratings for the show isn’t that hot flash either, compared to Footy Classified.

This says a lot about the difference between the two potential audiences - NRL fans don’t seem to be that interested in a great amount of “Serious” footy talk and it bares out in what Nine (and Fox for that matter) offer.

James Bracey has to be the best sports presenter in the country. He doesn’t have any kind of back story or history that links him to anything other than being a journo and a sports broadcaster. His skill at driving a telecast and not making it about himself if next to none.

I think the Olympics are on Channel 9 on 29 July 2024.

Are you sure?

Certainly agree, a pity Nine’s team of commentators are at best, just average. In my opinion Fox Sports a far better option.
