Of course it does. It wants NRL rights to sell to advertisers to get revenue to help their dumpster fire of a network.

Perhaps the most interesting attendees are those with whom V’landys and Abdo will do business in coming months to secure the next broadcast deal once the current one ends in 2027. They will be in V’landys’ chairman’s room – a large, ground-level bar at Allegiant Stadium – on Saturday: Laing and Nine boss Matt Stanton, Seven sports boss Chris Jones, Paramount’s new president of international and global content distribution, Kevin MacLellan, as well as representatives from Amazon and DAZN.
Just how much the NRL will get is anyone’s guess. Some have speculated as much a $5bn over five years. Privately, the NRL is talking up a good game, but that might be beyond its reach.

What does the new P+/HBO tie up mean for the rights deal - if anything has changed?
More of a risk - there’s more capital to invest that will reap rewards if 10 wins some part of the deal. If not, they’ll simply die.

Who knows but at least they have a representative at Las Vegas. If PVL can land a deal that doesn’t involve DAZN and Fox, I will consider all his posturing a success. If it’s more of the same then shame on him and the viewers will lie out with more of the same old shit they dish up week in week out. They’re calling off tube more than ever before. It’s a disaster.

At least we all know any potential rightsholder - new or old - will have to explain how they’ll do this.
Abdo said his next broadcast partner needed to think beyond typical coverage of the game.
“There are not many other sports rights in Australia in terms of this magnitude up [for negotiation] over this window. It’s about making sure all parties that are interested in rugby league … are helping us tell the stories of our game, not just live but other content as well.”

I think we - and the media - way overblow the significance of how these things influence - or don’t - a rights decision.
Would having a Johnny Come Lately show in Agenda Setters and Matt White on staff make it easier to ramp up coverage should they get games? Yes.
Will PVL and co be worrying about whether Matt White went to Vegas and reported in three months time when the bids are in? No.

NRL executives reportedly demanded Nine cancel plans for a live cross on the Today show weather segment to the Aspley Hornets Junior Aussie Rules Football Club in Brisbane this weekend. It was argued that the promotion could overshadow the lead-up to the NRL’s Las Vegas Opening Round on Sunday.

Wasn’t the NRL unhappy with the AFL promotion last year too? So this is probably something along that. Wanting less AFL promotion with 9 related big shows

So for example Ten/P+ could get part rights and 9/Stan could get some rights. Ten/P Saturday footy and 9/Stan Thursday, Friday and Sunday nights. Grand Finals/State of Origin alternated between the broadcasters as with the Super Bowl. 10/P with exclusive Vegas games. When Ten/P broadcasts the GF, it can be aired on CBS in the States
