Nova 96.9 idents constantly saying “Fresh Hits and Throwbacks” now.
Seems like Throwback Thursday and Friday Feels is extended to every day as Nova purposefully skews older now.

I just heard that too,
Maybe Irene the music director has started today and it is Nova’s spin of Hits and Old School.
Playlist is the same with a different positioner.
BTW I prefer it to not stop hits.
Non stop hits was previously used by Kiis, Nova ripped it off them when the started using Sydney’s #1 hit music station.
According to lava Nova 96.9 / Nova 100 and Nova 106.9 are running from the same log.
The playlists for all three stations were identical yesterday and so far today.
Nova 919 is running the Nova 937 log as they did for for most of last year.
Brisbane listeners would notice the most difference as there is none of the unique Nova 106.9 songs.
I wonder if this a temporary thing until the first survey or it will continue from now on?
I hope Irene knocks sense into the network to run 106.9’s log into Syd/Mel.
As for Fresh Hits & Throwbacks… come on. Just make it “Non-Stop Nova” and be done with it. It works on many levels… branding & un-stealable.
Survey 1 has not started yet, and it could be the holiday break but it looks like they are making Nova 106.9 as dull and boring as Nova 96.9 / Nova 100. I hope I am wrong.
Leading up to Xmas Nova 106.9 had their own log and were running repeat free 9-3’s
I like Non stop Nova and Non stop fresh hits.
Nova’s playlist should be a wide variety of new music with two throwbacks per hour.
There is plenty of music on triple J they could cross over and could be played on Nova so they don’t have to play the same 30 current hits and throwbacks on repeat.
Stations that do CHR well, Eagle / Snow fm,
i98 more hot AC but they play new music that does not get played on Nova.
Both of these are the only FM music stations in their market/region and have no competition. They can do and play whatever they like and I doubt very much that there is any research done on the music they play. In metro markets, especially when there are three CHR stations and with TSL being a lot lower, they need to have narrower playlists so they can demonstrate who they are and what they do every minute of the day.
Probably not a bad idea with Irene re-introducing Hits & Old School 2.0 to Nova.
At the end of the day, it’s not as if Sydney has a proper ‘Hits & Old School’ format station anymore.
It’d be ironic if Nova96.9 does better with this format than what 2Day did.
Every business has snow fm on in Jindy, rare to hear Xl fm on anywhere in Jindy. I find the station has a great playlist. The music is mainly new music, and new stuff that would get played on Nova 106.9 and crossovers from Triple J and hits no older then 2000, generally 4 hours before new hits get repeated.
BTW Nova 969 has just announced a Sydney music survey on the Nova website.
Just completed the music survey it was very long.
Rated all the overplayed songs by Pink, Shaggy, Jason Derulo, Bieber etc down to try and get them off Nova. I rated some of the lesser played songs which I liked high.
I encourage everyone who complains about the Sydney / Melbourne Nova playlist to do the survey.
They’re still doing Friday Feels but it’s worse now. One fresh hit in half an hour and five old tracks. No incentive to listen to this station any more.
I’m sorry but it is a bad idea. Sydney does not have a fresh hits station any more. The Edge is the only station playing mostly me music and it’s still not a proper Sydney station.
It’s worse than 2Day now. Its like the old Mix FM. If this is the direction that the axed Hit Network’s Head of Music is now taking Nova then they will be a good rival for 2Day at the bottom of the ratings ladder.
Looking at the KIIS 1065 playlist this morning. They are actually sounding fresher than Nova these days. Every second song is a fresh hit on the charts and every other song is a past hit. So sad that Nova has let KIIS become the cooler station in Sydney.

Way too much 90s music on Nova.
So KIIS looks to be CHR, Nova HOT AC and 2DAY AC/HOT AC
All three trying to find their groove it appears.
If 2Day want to play in that field, then they should move to mid-to-late 1990s through to Now and brand themselves “100% Hits” or “All The Hits” - if they don’t, move completely away.
“Making Sydney Feel Good” is just a nothing of a positioning. You’re dead last, you need to give the audience a complete reason for tuning to you. Go Hit after Hit after Hit after Hit with a limited, narrow playlist and once you have that groove, slowly broaden out a little.
Nova needs a rethink - they are the “tradies” version of a hit station. Do they go younger and compete with KIIS head on or do they flank both 2Day and KIIS and run that centre ground, which is what it looks like they’re trying to achieve. Don’t block 2Day - they’re not in your sights. Run into KIIS.
Doing the music survey gave me déjà vu of when Nova went down the Greatest Hits path, same throwbacks they were flogging to death then resurfacing again. Nova hopes listeners will rate them highly so they can continue flogging them to death again.
The Greatest hits format damaged Nova 106.9 and took it from clear number 1 to where it is now, using the Sydney / Melbourne log won’t help eiither.
Nova needs to go back to being fresh hits with a couple of throwbacks and slight alternative edge to standout from Kiis and Hit network stations.
Then their is Triple J who have had record ratings in Sydney and Brisbane beating both Nova’s in day parts.
Triple J will drop off a bit with changes to their on air team.
Nova needs to go younger and compete with Kiis and to some extent with Triple J, 2day fm is not a real threat in its present state.
The ad rep in me completely ignores Triple J. That’s something I need to overcome if I want to continue to give informed opinions on here. I didn’t even take them into consideration. Sorry.
Nova 93.7 advertising that Kate Tim and Marty will be on from 3pm this year.
First they take the Nova 919 log, then they take the Nova 919 programming strategy…
The throwbacks they are playing now are in high repeat as much as the fresh hits. It’s so bad. They even play the same throwback more than once in a day.
It’s the same CD for Melb, Ade and Per isn’t it?
Going back to the disaster that was the Greatest Hits Workday. This format works in Perth and Adelaide but not in the eastern states.
In survey 1 of 2019 Nova 96.9 took a hit -2.1 to drop down to a 6.5 share points their lowest result for quite some time. Nova then dropped the Greats Hits Work day and adjusted the music in Sydney mornings to skew younger, the ratings returned.
Melbourne dropped later due to a morning show that did not connect with listeners, it has since been axed.
Brisbane the once dominate station that sounded the closest to the original Nova format lost its consistence and started loosing to Triple M, Hit, and 97.3, it is now last in day parts of the three fm stations.
Seriously management think they can fix Nova 106.9 by introducing the Sydney / Melbourne log??? Nova 106.9 has now become a rip off of Kiis 106.5 a station that does not even exist in Brisbane.
End of rant!!!
