Probably not if you break it down. I’ve got old figures, but $500-700 get you 30 seconds during breakfast on a Sydney or Melbourne FM station about 5-10 years ago. Discount that bit for drive, let’s work on a ball park of $1000 for a single spot across Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. There’s 41 radio survey weeks (and we assume ads are cheaper during survey break). That’s 205 survey days per year. So $500K would buy 2.5 30 second spots. Across 3 hours they’d be playing promos more than that, maybe twice an hour, so $500K seems cheap when you factor in exclusivity and premium placement.
This seems pretty fair to me, traffic ads sell for similar prices depending on how many and where in the day they are.
Great placement and definitely gets people thinking about 6pm news if they’re already on the drive home.
Only issue I’ve noticed is sometimes Nova News and Nine News promo overlap or outdate each other, or of course the 6pm report is redundant given how TOTH timing is dead these days, usually airing around 7-11 past the hour!
From what I’ve noticed the 6pm bulletin is usually closer to the hour. The changeover of shows means they need to hit that time closer than other hours.
I’ve also noticed (in Melbourne at least) that the 6pm promo ends with something along the lines of “if you’ve missed the start of the bulletin you can catch up on 9 now”.
Also on Smooth. In Melbourne (when Alicia is here) both anchors present them.
Clint Stanaway back on air on Jase and Lauren this morning, crossing live from Sydney after attending the Logies last night.
Jase and Lauren will broadcast live from Mount Buller tomorrow morning (August 29).
Doesn’t The Fox usually do this?
Would Steve Bland return to AM news
reading at Nine Radio?
He’d be great at 2GB Breakfast.
Gunners, Blanda and Abbey… three of the absolute best.
What’s the new change?
Smooth and Nova sharing readers?
Lauren Phillips is hosting Jase and Lauren from her Fiji hotel room this week, she is in the country “on assignment”.
Probably filming for a travel show?
According to the Nova website schedule, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne have all been getting Mel Tracina in the local 9am-2pm slot this week.
Can anyone listening confirm if this is correct?
Mel was definitely on air in Melbourne this morning (as she usually is).
Has Nova axed its local weekday anchors?
Would align with the newsreaders being axed last week?
Who were the local announcers on Nova?
Sydney was Adam Price
Melbourne is Mel Tracina
Brisbane was Maddie Rowe
Adelaide was DC I think
Either Postcards or Getaway.
A shame if they’ve removed local workday jocks, as they made a fuss when they reinstated them.
Jamie Row was made redundant last week. Mel only workday announcer now.
