Nova Network

It’s been announced as nation wide.

Sure, but it’s probably still best of from throughout the week right? Surely they’re not doing 7 days.

Do Nova have any live networked programming before that on weekends?

Plot twist, Jase and Lauren end up doing national weekday breakfast on nova before Kyle and Jackie O manage to.

Yes, it says in the post that it’s a catch up. They’re not doing 7 days a week live.

Not usually, no. In Brisbane we usually have Ash, Luttsy and Susie rpts from 7am.

Not to be pedantic, but the post says “now you can catch up with the team…” not that it is catch up / best bits.

Understandably they’re being vague about the show just being highlights from the week.

And that’s interesting, I would have thought they’d at least have a live networked breakfast program on the weekend.

Usually serves as a good training ground for newer talent to come through, develop duo / trios etc.

Catch up. As in missed during the week. You can catch up on what you missed.

Yes I get that, but catch up has more than one meaning in this context.

That and “catching up” would really only apply to anyone in Melbourne, cause anyone outside of there wouldn’t quite understand they’re catching up on another states breakfast show best bits from throughout the week.

I don’t read the wording of that the same way you’ve interpreted it, even though I now know it’s not live. As I said, it’s been vaguely worded on purpose and I get why.

Just check the comments, few people asking if it’s live, if they’re working 7 days a week, if they’ll still be on during the week etc.

yes people can be simple sometimes

It doesn’t use the catch up line on any of the other states instagram announcements.

I imagine they’ll record a specific intro and outro, and some segues, the rest will be best bits from the week. Pretty standard.

Unfortunately for them they’re competing against a live show on KIIS though. I wonder if that will make a difference.

They may also opt to add in some pre recorded segments made specifically for weekends, as some of the content is very localised during the week.

The show has been hyper-local with Melbourne references in nearly every break. Do we think they’ll be left in, edited out, or dedicate segments for the weekend beforehand and drop the localisms for it?

Is it common knowledge that Fitzy’s now living back in Adelaide and doing the radio show down the line every morning?

If you look closely at the photo from this RadioToday article of the NSW Premier behind the microphone you’ll see Fitzy on a monitor (top right).

I don’t listen to the show regularly so I wasn’t sure if this was something they’re open about or not?

Yup. Announced late last year I believe.

The move hasn’t affected ratings, in fact, the show has received its best ratings ever this year I believe?

Yeah, an 8.9% share in the most recent survey.

Thanks for the clarification about the announcement last year.

I can’t imagine they’ll put too much effort it. They current have a one hour package of each of the 5 breakfast shows play overnight. I haven’t listened to see how similar or different it is, but I’d image it would be similar, maybe just with some different openers/joins and a dedicated segment or two focused more around setting the scene rather than new content.

NOVA 106.9’s BRISBANE BREAKFAST ANNOUNCER AND AUSTRALIAN OLYMPIC LEGEND SUSIE O’NEILL

SWAPS THE POOL DECK FOR DJ DECKS

Last night Nova 106.9’s Brisbane Breakfast Announcer and Australian Olympic swimmer Susie O’Neill swapped the pool deck for DJ decks, as her alter ego ‘DJ Lazy Susan’ headlined one of Brisbane’s biggest and hottest shows of 2024: ‘THE BUTTERFLY & BANGERS WORLD TOUR’.

The eight-time Olympic medallist took to the decks at Brisbane’s biggest and best club, THE MET BRISBANE in front of a thousand Nova listeners and VIP guests who witnessed the world champion go from breaking records to spinning them!

After her act she was joined on stage by her stellar support act, the incredible ARIA award-winning DJ Jolyon Petch, with the crowd whipped into a dance floor frenzy by Susie’s disc spins and dance moves.

Susie had commented to her Nova radio colleagues, Ash and Luttsy, earlier in the year that she had missed the nightclubbing scene back in her youth because of swimming, and the DJ idea was born.

The legendary swimmer, who openly expresses her surprise at transitioning into one of Brisbane’s most beloved breakfast broadcasters, celebrated a milestone birthday recently which has inspired her to “live out her gap year” and do things outside of her comfort zone.

Susie gave a shout out to those who had helped make her DJ dreams come true including Charlie Hustle & Steve Full who gave her lessons, and advice she received from Mash’d N Kutcher, Reuben from Peking Duk, and Scott Tweedie.

“The Australian DJ community is not only world class, but they are so nice, and I’ve been lucky enough to get advice and lessons from the best. And to be joined on stage by superstar DJ Jolyon Petch was simply amazing, " Susie said.

“Were my transitions seamless….No. Was it fun? Yes. Do I respect DJs more now? Absolutely. Would I do it again…absolutely NOT. This was definitely a one and done and I’m very happy to go back to the brekkie show with Ash and Luttsy!”

Nova 106.9 Program Manager and Co-Breakfast Presenter, Chris “Buzz” Bezzina, said the Queen of the Pool was now the Queen of the Clubs!

“Susie showed she still has that competitive spirit burning inside as she took to the stage and performed with the energy you’d expect from one of our greatest ever athletes,” Buzz said.

"Her playlist may have raised a few eyebrows amongst the Nova crew, but she pulled it off like the legend she is!

"This was an event for the fans and one of the best nights our show has been involved in.

“To see so many people cheering Susie on while dancing up a storm was an amazing experience!”

‘Ash, Luttsy & Susie O’Neill’ can be heard from 6am to 9am on Nova 106.9 in Brisbane.

Listeners can stream the show live or catch up with the daily podcast by downloading the Nova Player.

Did anyone catch Weekend with Jase and Lauren

Yes, caught a bit in Melbourne. Jase introed each break as being weekend breakfast with Jase and Lauren. Few generic nova references.

“Clint from the newsroom joins us” makes a little less sense on a Sunday when he’s not doing news.

Incidentally, they’ve also been teasing a big announcement at 8am on Monday
