Will probably wait until all episodes are on P+ to watch it all.
Exactly my plan.
10 are running encore screenings starting this Tuesday night after NCIS.
I think Joanne Froggat is a good actress and she pulls it off but I feel she’s a bot cold in tespect to having just lost an only daughter. You’d think she’d be more devastated than she is. The father is not much better.
I still stand by my comment about John Bradley in the lead role. He is completely miscast for the character. Too daggy and comical for what he should have been.
I have to say that Ten are not doing this dhow any favours with promos. They just show the same short promo for it every single week and not what is contained in the upcoming episode. Ridiculous compared to the amount of promos they do for their reality shows.
Am surprised there’s not more commentary about what a complete failure this drama has been for 10, of course it doesn’t help there’s been almost zero promotion or hype for the series.
I get the impression the network is not really that invested in drama, sure they’ve invested in commissioning and making some but seems they just go through the motions and show very little support or care once it goes to air.
It’s quite puzzling how they will put more effort promoting all the series that go to Paramount+ than the series they show first on 10. I don’t even understand why a British/Australian co-production goes to 10 first but an Australian series like Five Bedrooms gets shunted off to Paramount+ and them comes to 10 more than 18 months later.
How is North Shore any different to Riptide or Heat? These shows with leading British actors should be on Paramount+ at the same time as the UK and then screen on 10 later. Fully Australian shows like Five Bedrooms, Moe Than This and Secrets & Lies should be on 10 first.
It goes without saying, but Five Bedrooms was clearly moved to P+ to drive subscriptions to the service as a popular series but it’s exactly the type of show that would be great as first run local drama for FTA viewers.
Locally, Paramount tread a fine line with deciding or commissioning shows that will attract audiences via FTA or streaming and they haven’t quite got that strategy down pat yet from a second window screening perspective and which order that’s in I.e. FTA first then streaming or vice versa.
The co-productions aren’t quite hitting the mark as they’re too similar in genre or too obvious they’re not entirely geared towards local audiences. Then there’s the delay in screening locally and obvious lack in promotion which shows a lack of confidence in what they’re showing.
IMO the drama commissioning and strategy leads at Paramount locally needs a complete rethink and strategy moving forward.
They’re just wasting money if they’re investing in co-productions and then not screening the content as soon as it airs in the UK.
Are these show rating well in the UK?
Riptide on 5 did alright in the UK with the first episode 2.44m and 2.17m for the finale.
Ten Pound Poms on the BBC has done a lot better with 6.35m opening night and topping the ratings. Second episode was lower on 4.46m but still won Sunday night.
FTA is in decline and streaming is growing.
They are following the global trend of putting high appeal shows on the platforms where future profits come from
They need to deploy the life rafts (P+) for when the titanic finally goes under (FTA)
It’s a balancing act
That’s if Paramount + becomes successful here… still seems be finding its way through a crowded market.
Same in the US.
It’s chicken feed compared to Netflix Disney Prime and share price has been hammered. Wall st not confident about Para’s future
It will likely have to merge with peacock or even Max/discovery in years ahead
Yes, I think there will be a lot of mergers in a few years. I predicted a while ago that we will probably end up with maybe four or five major streaming services, after all the small players merge with them.
I understand the future is streaming but with what’s happening now, I still think a show like North Shore should have gone to Paramount+ first and Five Bedrooms which began on Ten should have stayed on Ten first but been made available same day on Paramount+.
Wall St might punish you for that type of thinking…
Watched the final episode last night.
While the murder case was solved, there was a twist at the very end. Max (John Bradley) was at his sister-in-law’s Sydney home when his wife suddenly turned up, pleading to Max to give their relationship another go. It would have been nice for Max to make his decision before the credits rolled.
The twist on who killed the daughter was ridiculous. What a waste of six hours.
Just finished watching it and yes completely ridiculous. Nothing on the quality of a real British crime drama wiwith their usual jaw dropping endings. Such a shame.
The series premieres on TVNZ 1 in New Zealand this Sunday (May 5) at 9.30pm.
