Nine wins night as I'm a Celebrity lifts on Thursday

Channel Nine topped Thursday TV viewing thanks largely to good early evening numbers as Ten’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here was the top non news program.

With Nine News and Seven News filling the top four places, I’m A Celebrity was fifth with 890,000 across its 90 minute broadcast. The result is up 28% from last year and one of the show’s highest ever commercial shares.

Primary channel shares were close for the night while Nine’s network share was 27.2% to Seven’s 25.1%, with Ten on 22.5%, ABC with 18.0% and SBS’s 7.2%. The younger skewing Ten topped the key advertising demographics.

Nine News (992,000 and 978,000) topped the night but A Current Affair slipped to third nationally at 7pm. Nine’s factual programming also disappointed with RBT the best on 591,000, Inside Story with 552,000, Kings Cross ER on 534,000 and An Hour to Save Your Life managing 344,000. Earlier, Hot Seat missed the top twenty with 466,000.

Seven’s strongest performer was it news service with Seven News returning 967,000 and 940,000. Home and Away (792,000) was number one at 7pm with four episodes of The Big Bang Theory on 492,000, 533,000, 492,000 and 468,000. First Dates managed 208,000 for an encore while The Chase had 503,000 and 354,000 in the afternoon.

Meanwhile for Ten, The Project had 615,000 and 450,000 with Family Feud next best on 521,000 for its simulcast and Ten Eyewitness News on 474,000. Later, two repeat episodes of Law and Order: SVU could only manage 395,000 and 257,000.

ABC News (786,000) and 7.30 (638,000) made the top ten for ABC but QI (586,000) was the only other top twenty entry for the public broadcaster. Sherlock was next best with 456,000 and Agony had 245,000 for a repeat.

Over on SBS, The Family Law improved for its latest episode to 291,000 with Food Safari Fire next best with 262,000.

In the morning battle, Seven’s Sunrise took the lead with 337,000 metro viewers, while Today was competitive with 325,000 on Channel Nine.
