Nine (WIN)

I really wish they would do that sparingly as it’s annoying.

It also occurs on radio. It’s not unusual.

True. 3 or 4 of the same ad could be a Traffic error. Same with a McDonalds spot followed by a KFC spot or a Mazda spot and a Ford spot in the same break. Things happen.

… not quite as bad as this on 7 Melbourne in 2014 … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOnD4dRWpr8&t=107s

… and when they came back after the forced break, they just started the news again as if nothing had happened … no apology or anything …

I never said it was acceptable though, however given the options…

You’re right, that’s a bigger problem but I would assume that the differing networks would be on if not seperate, very distant router connections.

It looks like in that glitch they may have taken a time shifted feed of the news from the very start once the issue was fixed. That’s why it appears Jennifer Keyte is completely unaware of what was happening.

… nope, they started again …

i know its been mentioned before, but what exactly is WIN’s radio network? I98 in the WIN carpark, and Campbelltown radio C93? . If thats all it is , its not very extensive, compared to what they had available at SCA. I still find this deal puzzling and expect more announcements in the future which will make all this seem sensible.

Yes. WIN have sniffed around for other radio stations in the past, but the numbers didn’t stack up.

And more recently were close to offloading i98 to SCA in return for the NRN TV licence.

There’s one other station. WIN also owns 50% of KIX Country 105.3 Wollongong in a joint venture with Grant Broadcasters.

why would they bother?

I imagine WIN had the licence and Grants had the content, so they came to an arrangement.

I’ve just noticed that WIN Illawarra on LCN-8 has gone back to MPEG-2 SD, with HD now only available via LCN-80.

So WIN Illawarra’s “main channel only in MPEG4 HD experiment” only lasted about 6-7 weeks?

Can’t really say I’m surprised. Perhaps it’ll make sense for WIN and other broadcasters to completely ditch MPEG2 SD in five years time (by which point I hope we’ll be thinking about transitioning to DVB-T2/HEVC) but right now, it wasn’t a great idea to do this experiment…especially since we all know there’d be a heap of people without MPEG4 who’d complain if they found themselves without Nine Network programming on July 1!

My theory was that it was a test associated with the commercial television industry’s response to the Media Reform Green Paper.

But while it is “totally reliant on our affiliate network to provide compliant programming” it currently sources the show from 10 which is not required to (separate rules apply for multichannels and non primetime).

Something doesn’t add up here. Currently you don’t need to close caption programming on Multichannels (with maybe the exception of Sport and News) so unless something’s changed?

Also regional partners rely on their metro affiliates (except during local news or other local programming) to ensure closed captioning is passed through the chain.
