You would show a loop or alternative content rather than free advertising for companies not advertising on your channels.
You would think so. Was common practice years ago to take metro dirty feeds instead of switching off for the night. Metro clients were told they were “bonus” ads running on other stations.
I guess they’ve run out of local clients and testing the waters with Adelaide ones.
Unlikely
most likely pulling more Adelaide advertisers
What happened to WINnet, WIN’s dial-up internet joint venture with OzEmail? Story in The Age, 13 Nov 1999:
A snippet from The Australian on NLA Trove reported that WINnet had 20,000 subscribers in August 2002. winnet.com.au now redirects to wintv.com.au.
I think that closed up in 2003 from memory.
Even by 2002 standards that probably would’ve been low compared to the number of subscribers Telstra Bigpond and other ISPs had in regional Australia?
WIN Channel 8 changing to HD
From Monday 29th March, WIN’s Illawarra Channel 8 will be changing to the High Definition Mpeg-4 format.
In doing so, some viewers may lose the ability to receive WIN’s Illawarra Channel 8 as your TV may not be compatible with this format, similar to when mobile phones changed from 3G to 4G and now 5G.
Please contact your preferred local electrical appliance supplier for advice on what solutions are available.

Maybe this is how they’ll fit 9Life and SNOW in by dumping the SD simulcast.
They could also launch 10 Shake in the meantime.
About time.
It’s 2021. SD isn’t needed.
if WIN’s illawarra sd on 8 will be in hd does that mean it will be a test? and all of WIN SD on 8 will eventually be upgraded to HD hence getting rid of the need of WIN HD on channel 80?
Wow, so they’re removing the MPEG2 SD channel all together? Ballsy move. Wish the metro networks would do the same.
I bet WIN are chomping at the bit to be associated with rugby league again, at least on screen.
I wonder if they’re only doing it in one market (Illawarra), perhaps as a test or its a phased rollout
This just screams no fucks given
Would be a tease to launch 10 Shake for it to just disappear in 4-5 months time…
HELL YEAH BABY IT’S GOLD 2 TIME
It would theoretically allow WIN to keep SNOW and later still carry all of Nine’s multis. So when they switch to Nine, 9Life could start on 1 July instead of waiting until the SNOW contract expires later.
Yep, that’s what I was thinking. Do it now with the lower rating programming so it can be ready for when they have the Nine content back again. They don’t have to try and make Ten happy anymore.
Yep, especially if this only just got released today on a Friday with only a couple of days before Monday.
I highly doubt this one, remember they’re a business. They don’t want to give extra content which they’ll be losing in a few months UNLESS they hear that SCA won’t be doing that in which case they can launch it and say they were good and do a big song and dance about how bad SCA are when they take it away.
9Rush or 9Life? I thought it was 9Life not launching from start.
If the Illawarra HD trial is successful, and is rolled out across the WIN network, I’d like to think this could trigger the end of MPEG2.
As other networks may then follow suit, thus paving the way for other multis on all networks to be MPEG4 HD full time.
I wonder if Bruce reads the forums here and saw us making all the jokes about Commodore 64’s and 486’s and then went “you know what. I’ll show them Media Spyers! I’ll do this shock move to put us ahead of all the pack!”
If only he took notice of the comments on Mappy!
