Nine Tennis Coverage

I can’t believe Nine didn’t air the match on the main channel in Perth. Surely 60 Minutes could have been pre-empted?

Is it just me or has the scoreboard got progressively slower throughout the tournament?
Get the scoreboard person a double shot espresso.

We get the irritating violin strings of this Britbox ad every ad break instead…

How good does the show look though!

2 posts were split to a new topic: Australian Open Rights 2025

Not sure if this is the right thread for it, but here is an opener for Nine’s US Open coverage that I found from 2009.

Given Todd Woodbridge was contracted to Seven at the time, I would like to think he was working on the world feed.

Mentions that Ash Barty’s win in the women’s singles final remains the top-rating program on Australian TV this year to date.

Used to love that opener. That year they showed the men’s final on delay to show after the Today Show, if i remember correctly they even had technical issues where they missed some of the match. Nine’s sport coverage was just so bad in the late 2000’s.

Don’t remember Todd being a world feed commentator but i could be wrong

Nine will bring fans closer to the courtside action using cutting-edge technology including artificial intelligence, mixed and extended reality, and advances in Hawkeye that keeps viewers immersed in a match, and FlyCam that cinematically captures all the colour and activity of the crowd over the Australian Open site.

Anne Gruber, Nine’s head of content partnerships – sport, said the tennis audience has a hunger for a constant feed of content and immersion.

Gruber announced that Nine’s digital audio arm, 9Podcasts, will be releasing two new Australian Open podcasts – a six-part documentary series Stories of the AO, and a WWOS AO podcast during the Open for fans to catch up on the latest tennis news.

Tennis rights must be coming up??

Yep. Nine/Stan would want the ATP/WTA tour plus full Davis Cup coverage

Apart from the Players Championship and the Tennis Masters Cup (now ATP Finals), I don’t think Nine has shown ATP/WTA tournaments that are played outside Australia.

Nine will need to beat incumbent BeIN Sport to grab exclusive Australian broadcast rights to the full ATP/WTA Tour, plus Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup.

Game, set & match for brands as Tennis on Nine in 2023 serves up a summer of hits like no other

Nine has used its annual tennis launch to showcase how the company’s commitment to the sport will include new cutting-edge technology and content across a mega sport ecosystem to ensure that Tennis on Nine in 2023 is summer’s biggest and most effective marketing platform.

With tennis the only proven summer platform to increase brand perceptions, Tennis on Nine in 2023 will elevate the sport to the next level, with significant investment in our total content proposition across Nine’s television, publishing, audio and digital offerings.

“With a combination of assets, across an unrivalled system of touchpoints that no other media company can offer, Nine is uniquely positioned to deliver year round tennis content and the only place in Australia to watch all four grand slams” said Brent Williams, Nine’s Director of Sport.

“Consistency in audience and content is what we do best. From delivering cutting edge technology and innovation, to a world class commentary team and the most comprehensive content offerings across all facets of Wide World of Sports and Nine’s platforms.”

Make no mistake, the next generation of Australian and international superstars are already here and the tennis launch revealed several initiatives to ensure the game keeps evolving and provides brands with a unique platform.

With cutting-edge technology including artificial intelligence, mixed and extended reality, and advances in Hawkeye that keeps viewers immersed in a match, and FlyCam that cinematically captures all the colour and activity of the crowd over the Australian Open site – Nine will bring fans closer than ever before to the courtside action.

Anne Gruber, Nine’s Head of Content Partnerships – Sport, said the tennis audience has a hunger for a constant feed of content and immersion. She announced that Nine’s digital audio arm, 9Podcasts will be releasing two new Australian Open podcasts – a six-part documentary series Stories of the AO, and a WWOS AO podcast during the Open for fans to catch up on the latest tennis news.

“The capability for audiences to have 360-degree intel, 24/7 on the game and its players is becoming even more crucial as we move towards next year,” she said. “Each of our platforms – across broadcast, publishing, digital and audio – deliver strengths for marketers, but we know that the power of them together creates meaningful connections with millions of Australians.”

Matt Granger, Nine’s Director of Sales – Sport, said Tennis on Nine offers marketers and brands solutions across an unrivalled ecosystem, leveraging off one of sports most trusted brands in Wide World of Sports.

“Here at Nine and WWOS, we never stand still; we continue to invest significantly in our total content proposition to bring the excitement of the summer of tennis to audiences and fans, around the clock, no matter where or how they want to consume it. The WWOS mega sport ecosystem provides the expertise and solutions to help brands realise the big and effective ideas to achieve against their objectives by putting their brand at the heart of the action.”

It’ll be an anticipated men’s draw considering the good form of Nick Kyrgios and Alex De Minaur

Doesn’t really rate. Nick’s win in Washington last week didn’t even hit the top 20 despite it being it on a reasonable morning timeslot.

I’m pretty sure the ATP was at least to 2024 as well

They would want it for Stan, not FTA.
