I suspect it’ll be the opening game too - although I think they’d be better off putting it in week 2 or 3.
The opening game is going to plenty of attention as it is, while it could die off if the Aus/NZL game is first then a lull of meaningful matches.
Melbourne preferred the NFL to the Rugby World Cup it seems. Not getting many games at all.
Some genius decided to lock in an exclusivity clause to the MCG with the NFL for September/October - ruling them out.
No Wallabies games or QF like 2003. Pity.
Is Nine going to air more than just Wallabies games on linear?
I mean, weekends are loaded with 4 games a day (5 games on 17 October). Easy way to fill up the afternoon and evening slots.
Nine may air a couple of matches on Sunday October 10, up against Bathurst 1000 on Seven.

They are for a few matches.
According to The Roar, Nine will be showing the Saturday night super rugby game live on FTA this season, with the first live FTA game being the Western Force vs Brumbies on Sat 14th Feb. Everything else will be on Stan Sport.
This is part of the new broadcast deal with Nine, which didn’t originally guarantee a Saturday night FTA game on Nine/Gem.

Docklands Stadium is Marvel Stadium
Yes but the point is, it’s only a 56k stadium as opposed to 100k at the MCG, which is why Melbourne missed out on any games past the round of 16.
Massive weekend of rugby on Stan, with the SVNS Series in Perth, and the opening round of Six Nations Championship (which actually began early this morning our time with France beating Ireland 36-14).
Looks like oethesaint is correct. Online guides are displaying 9Gem not screening Super Rugby this Saturday.
So is Super Rugby now a Stan only sport?
From when the rights were announced early last year:
But Super Rugby games will no longer be shown automatically on free-to-air television under the terms of the new agreement, which was officially announced on Wednesday by RA and Nine Entertainment, owners of this masthead.
I feel like this is a step back IMO.
FTA coverage is needed to grow the game
Putting a competition behind a paywall has done wonders for sports all over the world. I’m sure the ECB will wax lyrical about how they’ve grown the game /s
