Nine/Stan Paralympics Coverage

They’ll have coverage on 9Gem or 9Go! plus full coverage on Stan Sport

I wouldn’t be surprised if Nine followed a similar coverage structure for the upcoming Winter Games as they did for Paris 2024. The IPC and APC likely wouldn’t have renewed their partnership with Nine unless they were satisfied with how the network handled the Summer Paralympics.

It’s also worth highlighting that Nine remains the only broadcaster in the country to truly provide the Paralympics with an equal platform, placing it on par with their main Olympics coverage. They’ve consistently championed para-athletes and brought their stories to a mainstream audience—offering a level of respect and visibility to the Paralympic and Para-sport movements that neither Seven nor the ABC managed to deliver.

The Winter Paralympics is a relatively easy event to cover as there are so few sports and at most only 4-5 sports taking simultaneously, with only curling and ice hockey in the evenings. I suspect Nine will just have linear coverage in primetime on 9Gemcovering the snow based medals then just stream the hockey/curling overnight until they get to the medals stage.

Para hockey will be fun to watch

According to TV Tonight’s interview with Nine’s director of programming Geoff Dyer, there will just be daily highlights of Milano-Cortina Winter Paralympics on Nine, with live coverage on 9Now and Stan Sport.

Can’t believe the Winter Paralympics is just over two weeks away.

It will be interesting to see which part of Nine’s commentary team for the Winter Olympics will remain for the Paralympics (even if they are only calling live on 9Now and Stan Sport).

Didn’t you know the Paralympics always follow the Olympics?

The Winter Paralympics is a very small event compared to the summer games. Outside of curling and ice hockey there is just a few hours of action a day and often just a couple of simultaneous events. Indeed it should suit Australian viewers with most events in the evening.
