Southbank Promenade OB? I’m assuming Today will be coming from this location.
Nine will likely follow the approach of previous Melbourne Cup broadcasters by utilizing their ‘broadcast position’ at Flemington.
It was stated in their own media statement that they will have a Southbank Promenade OB, along with another at Flemington.
I doubt they’ll base the telecasts from there though, I’d imagined only Today, news and maybe ACA.
Like Seven used to do with Sunrise, news and TT at both Melbourne Park and Flemington in the 2000s and early 2010s.
Nine is replicating what 7 did during its Cup run by broadcasting Today, News and ACA from Flemington during Cup Week
The release makes it perfectly clear:
Studio 10, The Project and 10 News First did the same during 2019.
Did GMA did an OB during 10’s first broadcast?
Wonder whether the VRC component will be (as you suggest) providing a full host broadcast feed that Nine has to carry or if they’ll merely provide pictures which Nine can supplement with their own talent.
Don’t think so, instead Sandra Sully conducted Interviews with 10 Celebrities during the coverage of the 4 days and 10 News Victoria broadcasted the 5pm state bulletin live from Flemington racecourse on Cup Day and Oaks Day.
Jess Fox continuing her involvement with Nine following her stint on Today and commentating for the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
I feel this will the Tabcorp produced segment with their own branding and personalities that must be carried on the broadcast and perhaps the section that 7 and 10 took exception to and therefore dropped out of the race for the rights.
If so, you’d think Nine would’ve also. Nine’s fees must be real sweet then compared to Ten’s $100m deal. Maybe TabCorp’s involvement in Nine’s coverage will just be focussed around the betting and odds segments/plugs? Surely Nine will still get their own analysis and panel commentary, given James Bracey, Tony Jones and Billy Slater in the mounting yards and on horseback.

Another sport channel 7 has lost. Sydney to Hobart back on Nine
Makes it sound like they’ll cover more than just the start?
Don’t think Nine has ever showed Sydney to Hobart race. I know 10 showed it throughout the 1990s and early 2000s when Seven first showed the event.
