They were still using Richie’s voice on the closer for the 50 over domestic cricket comp this year too (really shooper shtuff that).
MARVELLOUS!
Cameron Williams quit nine two years ago. Don’t know if he will come back to network.
It has already been announced…
Not even 1 year ago… and he is back… confirmed.
Since Nine’s sports has been significantly cut over the years I haven’t seen a lot of him over the last few years but as he headed the US Masters, Wimbledon, US Open tennis etc. back in the day I always wondered why the guy got a gig, the amount of mistakes he would make and just no knowledge of anything He was a horrific host. Never understood the love.
First Nine News set and new graphics debuted in Perth, now the new cricket graphics debuted in Perth.
The full fixture for the new national netball league (SuperNetball) was revealed today, including a double page poster in the Herald Sun today. Nine will show two matches back to back on Saturday nights and all finals live.
Herald Sun reports today Tiffany Cherry will host a new show for Nine on the new AFL Women’s competition next year. To be called simply Women’s Footy, the Crocmedia production will air every Sunday from February and will feature a rotating panel of AFLW players. Cherry currently co-hosts Everyday Health on Ten and is a part time boundary reporter for 3AW’s AFL coverage.

Australia will play England, South Africa and New Zealand in the Netball Quad Series, which will be held in South Africa and England from January 28 to February 5, however 9Gem will only show matches involving Australia. If you get the rights to the series you may as well show the whole thing. 9Gem’s broadcast schedule can be found here
Nine will also show two FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March: Iraq v Australia in Tehran, Iran on March 23, and Australia v UAE at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium on March 28.
According to Mumbrella, Wide World of Sports returns for 2017 on Sunday March 5 at 10am under a new name Sports Sunday. It will be hosted by Emma Freedman, with Peter FitzSimons, Liz Ellis, Michael Slater and Nine sports reporter Neil Breen as panellists. Sports stars including Michael Clarke, John Steffensen, David Warner and Candice Warner will also make appearances on the panel.
Sports Sunday was originally hosted by Ken Sutcliffe and aired in Sunday afternoons in the 1990s, and featured extensive profiles and interviews with sportspeople from Australia and around the world.
Sports Sunday?
Not sure why they’ve ditched the WWOS name…
Back in the 90s, I thought it was on at 11am or midday… I don’t think it was any later than that.
I’ve been waiting for a show involving Peter FitzSimons to pop up after he told me mid-December he was about to film a pilot. I presume this is it.
Why change the name from Wide World of Sports to Sports Sunday, and say its a completely brand new show (going by the articles). Isn’t it the same show, but just with a different name?
The show has aired at 10am (or there abouts) for a few years now.
Didn’t Nine actually have a show called Sports Sunday many years ago? If so, it’s more of a flashback if anything…
Yes, Sports Sunday and for a while it aired a day earlier as Sports Saturday.
yep - 4-6pm. Used to love it on NBN
Sports Sunday was a news magazine program with long form sports stories, profiles and interviews. Was quite well produced and high quality.
##netball
In less than a month’s time Australia will see one of the biggest game-changers in women’s sport when the Nine Network begins broadcasting the all new SUNCORP SUPER NETBALL competition – LIVE and FREE – on Saturday, February 18, from 5.00pm AEDT on 9GEM.
In an historic five-year agreement with Netball Australia, Suncorp and Telstra, Nine will provide netball fans with unprecedented access to domestic and international games – showcasing four matches per week including a LIVE Saturday night, prime-time double-header, the Fast5 Netball World Series, and international matches in the Constellation Cup and Quad Series.
Hosting all the SUNCORP SUPER NETBALL action for 9GEM will be Sylvia Jeffreys, Clint Stanaway and Seb Costello. They will be joined by an expert commentary team including Australian netball legends Liz Ellis, Anne Sargeant, Cath Cox, Sharelle McMahon and Sue Gaudion.
Courtside reporters will include Nine sports presenters Julie Snook, Tom Mitchell, Christine Ahern, Jack Burketa and Paddy Sweeney.
Nine’s Head of Netball, Keeley Devery, said: “Having been both a player and a broadcaster, I can say with absolute certainty that fans will love this supercharged broadcast of netball. We’ve stayed true to the hard-core fans as well as opening the door for people who just like to watch hard and fast athletes at the top of their game – going point-for-point over 60 heart-stopping minutes.”
Former Australian captain and 9GEM commentator Liz Ellis said: “It’s so exciting to see our sport step up another level. With Nine’s support, and having netball on television every Saturday night, it is an impressive recognition of the game. I can’t wait to get behind the microphone and call the action.”
SUNCORP SUPER NETBALL will also be broadcast via 9Now, Telstra TV and the Netball Live app.
