How was nine’s coverage? I’d imagine is was similar to Sevens last year?

Nine must be showing some NHL hockey going forward. Surprised by that.

They had it in a few forward schedules but they seemingly got dropped - did it ever end up going to air?

So a promo half about NRL

Hideous graphics.

Nine need to throw out all their graphics templates and start all over again.

Sporting broadcasters in this country need to completely overhaul all their presentation. It’s just shit. You look at what some Europeans and the US is doing and ours is just plain shithouse.

they also need to drop “Wide World of Sports” - it’s so ABC 1980s.

Well it is Nine’s major winter sport event

Refresh or relaunch the brand? Sure. But dump the Wide World of Sports branding? Absolutely not.

Tweak the existing opening fanfare, or if a change is necessary, go with Giants Causeway 2—a shorter cut of the theme used on Wide World of Sports Saturday/Sunday editions and the current Nine Radio variant.

Revamp the logo to align more closely with the former globe design, and perhaps have it animate and form in a similar way for a modern touch that still honors its legacy.

I tend to agree - it’s a dated brand and in this day and age, I wonder whether they would be better served having connection to the 9 name in the brand (Nine’s WWOS doesn’t cut it) would be better.

9 Sports is a better name

Like “National Nine News,” I just believe it’s unnecessary these days. Back in the 80’s when they were beaming stuff in from OS and it was “live” and all fresh and new I could understand. Plus the Saturday afternoon show being called something - but these days no sports branding is so long, outdated and not needed.

If you watch the video carefully, about halfway through James Bracey says “wide world of sport” so they can’t even get the branding right.

9Sport - simple.

Only thing is that they probably don’t want to be seen to be copying 7, since they use “7 Sport”.

It’s odd, Seven seem to be happy to copy Nine, but Nine don’t seem to like to be seen to be copying Seven.

I don’t get why Stan Sports got branded independently, because the main justification for the WWOS branding over just “Nine Sports” would be that it’s multi-platform, not tied to “Nine” directly.

The WWOS shows on their radio stations are smart, but they dont complete the connection to all their platforms.

I feel there would potentially be value to “Wide World of Sports” as a unified brand across both the Nine and Stan platforms. Rebrand Stan Sport to something like “WWOS+” as a complementary brand to the existing WWOS brand on Nine.

Otherwise, if Nine is keen on Stan retaining a separate identity to Nine, then perhaps it is very well time to put the WWOS brand into retirement as for what it primarily a FTA TV brand it does come across as a bit dated.

The Nine Sport(s) brand has been used before in the 1980s (example from 1981 below).

It’s a point of difference.
10 & 7 both use their respective channel number and the word sport (technically 7 has started using 7+ Sport but I’ll save that rant for another day in another thread).

And I get that, but it didn’t stop them from dropping “National” from the news to join “Seven News” and “Ten News”

I guess they already had the Stan platform and jt felt easier to expand that reach on the same platform rather than explain a new WWOS arm. I remember discussing it here at the time.
