Nine Radio (Talk)

2ue. 2sm, 4bc, 3aw, 2cc and others should air the John Laws Funeral

I know 2ue is music based now but ace should stop the music for this to pay tribute to the legendary broadcaster

2SM and SRN are taking the Channel 9 broadcast/simulcast.

Nine Radio stations will be providing a radio equivalent - with their own hosts commentating.

That is a good all-round tribute to Australia’s King of Radio.

4BC AFTERNOONS WITH CARLA BIGNASCA IN 2026

Brisbane’s 4BC has today announced Carla Bignasca as the host of 4BC Afternoons in 2026.

A familiar voice to the 4BC audience, Bignasca will officially take the 4BC Afternoons chair from January 19, 2026, completing 4BC’s new live and local lineup.

Bignasca first joined 4BC as an Executive Producer in 2024 and has been a regular and trusted fill-in on 4BC Afternoons. She is a highly respected industry all-rounder, bringing a wealth of knowledge and decades of experience across all areas of broadcasting.

With her warmth, energy and insight, Bignasca will continue with the in-depth, community driven conversation that matters to Brisbane.

“It’s an honour to be stepping into Afternoons on 4BC, and I don’t take it lightly for a second”, said Bignasca.

“This show will embrace what matters to the people of Brisbane and South East Queensland community and the real experiences that shape our everyday lives. I’ve devoted my entire life to working in radio. I love the craft of authentic storytelling, and I enjoy nothing more than listening to people and giving them space to be heard.

“Whether it’s shining a light on local issues and honest chats about the pressures we’re all facing, celebrating small businesses or my other great loves of food and culture - I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves and get connected.

“Our city is full of heart and promise, unlike any other capital in Australia, and it’s a privilege to play a part in reflecting that back to our community.

“I can’t wait to have some fun with our listeners and bring some joy to their afternoons.”

4BC Station Manager Siobhain McDonnell said: “From breakfast radio to national radio shows and TV, Carla has done it all. I am thrilled to be introducing her to our audience and to the Brisbane airwaves full time. Carla has already connected with the 4BC Afternoons audience this year both on and off air, and I am delighted that she will now be bringing her warmth, sense of humour and zest for life to our station daily. Carla calls them like she sees them, isn’t one to shy away from the big issues and is guaranteed to bring some joy to Brisbane’s day.

“With Carla’s appointment our 4BC 2026 lineup is complete. Dean Miller and Sofie Formica on Breakfast, Jason Matthews on Mornings, Carla Bignasca on Afternoons and Gary Hardgrave remaining as our Drive announcer – all fiercely passionate about celebrating Brisbane.

“4BC is dedicated to celebrating our wonderful city, whilst campaigning to make it even better every day. We want our listeners and the wider Brisbane audience to be informed, entertained and feeling good about the city we live in and the communities we are a part of.”

Tune in to 4BC Afternoons with Carla Bignasca from 12pm-3pm, weekdays from January 19, 2026.

With that, only 3.00-7.00pm will carry over to 2026.

Carla Bignasca will be known to many listeners as Biggzy. She was a former host of Hot 30 Countdown on Hit network.

It all seems to be a younger skewing sound for 4BC, apart from Gary at Drive.

Firstly, 4BC don’t have many listeners to begin with.

Of the few they have, most won’t have heard her on the Hot 30.

Hit network didn’t exist when she did the Hot 30. Today network.

More fifth level content. Nine are keeping the local lights on at 4BC via the cheapest way possible. Nine have given up properly resourcing 4BC.

When will someone realise that commercial talkback radio doesn’t rate very well here in Brisbane?

They need to do something—the talk-radio generation is literally dying out. The problem is that younger people (45 and under) don’t listen to AM radio, let alone talk formats. And right-leaning talk is in an especially tough spot now that most voters fall into that under-45 demographic.

AM talk radio feels like petrol stations - on a slow decline. Everyone can see what’s happening, but the owners are hanging on desperately.

News.com.au seems to be reporting that Singo and Jack Cowan have come to agreement to buy Nine Radio, albeit it can’t confirm anything

John Singleton and Jack Cowin close in on Nine Radio buyout

Nine Radio’s $275m empire has crashed to just $30m in value as billionaire John Singleton eyes a dramatic return to the network.

According to insiders a verbal agreement was reached between the two parties a fortnight ago.

Singo and Hungry Jack have reached a verbal agreement. That’s a start.

Nine still have to agree to the sale. How likely is this?

I would say very likely. I don’t think there are any other serious buyers given the terrible state of the books.

I don’t think there’s any chance they sell it back to Singo. It would be a terrible look for both Nine and the new owners to resurrect a radio network that tolerated abuse and harassment. In 2025 staff won’t tolerate a company like Macquarie Media. If Ray was to come back on air then he’s just 100% confirming he was stood down for mistreating staff and not his own choice.

It will be interesting if John Singleton brings back Macquarie Radio Network from the dead. If Nine sells 3aw/2gb/4bc to John Singleton. What will happen to the current lease agreement that Nine has with Ace Radio regarding Magic 1278/2ue/4bh?

I’d imagine the deal would be structured so that the lease agreement remains in place and carries over under any ‘new MRN’ ownership. The same would likely apply to the Olympics rights agreements—unless Nine were to buy another radio network and shift those rights across instead.

I’d say it’s a done deal. Singo will likely buy it back at a cheaper price (just like how the late Kerry Packer re-brought Channel Nine), and rebrand the Macquarie Radio Network again.

The deal with Singleton is just about done. The lease for the music stations with ACE will stay in place until ACE decides not to renew. Hadley will be back on 2GB Mornings, Levy maybe on Drive or Wild World of Sport/fill ins. 2GB networked into 4BC 24/7. Steve Price may get a gig back at 3AW…if he does it will probably be Drive. Perth is a bit of an unknown as Singleton’s team has very little knowledge of that market…..but I would predict that Liam Bartlett would be back on 6PR in Breakfast or Mornings.

The staff and presenters at 2GB would be doing cartwheels at the thought of Hadley coming back (not).

No doubt they’ll make sure Levy ends up with a shift elsewhere, just guessing it’ll probably be at the expense of Clinton Maynard.
