Nine Radio (Talk)

If Singleton buys the network it’s a 100% sure thing that 2GB will be broadcast into 4BC across the board. Hate to say it, but the last time they did it 4BC rated better than it does now.

Should listen back to the first half hour of Sunday’s 3AW overnight show broadcast to all Nine radio talk stations.

Pat seemed confused in show prep and caller selection as to if he was filling on MMM night shift (as he used to) or AW.

Callers were mostly all male, old, unwell, addicted to alcohol/prescription drugs and had dinosaur views including that Marty Sheargold was harshly dealt with.

No attempt to screen callers, on air questions repeatedly for when the pharmacist regular was on air (12:30am) and when the quiz was on.

The Marty sympathiser also took aim at Jacqui Felgate’s view of the comedian. Thankfully a well spoken female called in to correct the record.

First three callers were drunk and had to be dumped, bypassed or put back on hold.

It’s sad to see this once well prepared program slip so far downhill. Hopefully AW and Nine management listen back and either work with Pat or find a more disciplined broadcaster.

Jack Hahn reading the midday news on 3AW today. Must be a national bulletin.

Usually the bulletin is presented locally.

was a national bulletin yesterday afternoon as well.

Jack does a good job. Maybe the person who would normally screen the calls was unavailable at short notice

Explains why the newsreader wasn’t all distorted and clipped on 1278AM unlike when the news comes from 3AW itself. Be nice if someone at Magic 1278 in Melbourne occasionally listened to its AM output. Been like that forever.

Well, 1278 is leased out to ACE, so it makes sense that Nine Radio still has to provide the news output for the music stations as part of that lease agreement.

Well we all know that. That wasn’t the point I was making.

Is 9 radio pre-recording its overnight bulletins?

It sounds very much like it.

JASON MATTHEWS TO HOST 4BC MORNINGS

Brisbane’s 4BC has today announced Jason Matthews as the permanent host of 4BC Mornings, following an impressive run as a fill-in presenter and contributor across the station.

Matthews joined 4BC in October last year, filling in on Wild World of Sports and 4BC Drive before stepping in to assist on air during ex - Tropical Cyclone Alfred rolling coverage earlier this year. Most recently, he has been a familiar voice for 4BC Mornings listeners since taking over the hosting chair in September.

With an impressive broadcasting background that includes decades of experience across multiple networks, Matthews brings a wealth of experience and understanding of talk radio to 4BC.

From hard-hitting news and politics to the lighter side of life, Matthews’ relatable and intelligent commentary has made him a trusted voice for Brisbane audiences. He has firmly won over 4BC listeners with his quick-witted opinions, sharp analysis of the local news cycle and above all, his compassion.

During his time at 4BC, Matthews has helped reverse decisions to evict listeners from their homes, given a platform to residents protesting local developments, and been a strong voice for small businesses struggling with cost-of-living pressures, reflecting his dedication to the community and his listeners.

“I’m genuinely excited to be hosting Mornings on 4BC. This is a chance to have real conversations about the things that matter to Queenslanders — cost of living pressures, local community issues, our sporting culture, politics, and the stories shaping everyday life. And let’s be honest… if there’s a BBQ, a stadium debate, or a game of footy involved, I’ll be right in the middle of it. I’m looking forward to giving a strong local voice to the issues we care about and connecting with listeners across Brisbane and beyond. Let’s celebrate this great capital city of ours and continue to make it better for everyone”, said Matthews.

4BC Station Manager Siobhain McDonnell said: “Jason Matthews is a natural talkback presenter. His quick wit, wry sense of humour and sharp analysis of current affairs has already proven incredibly popular with the 4BC audience and I am delighted to be welcoming him to the station as part of the permanent lineup in 2026.”

Tune in to 4BC Mornings with Jason Matthews, weekdays from 9am -12pm.

… So it has been offered to SRN stations who’ll be taking the SRN feed (also taking the funeral broadcast) at that time? …

I don’t understand why 2GB/Nine Radio have to be all over Laws. It wasn’t really 2GB who had him in his heyday era. It was the OTHER station (2UE) which they purchased & gutted out.

That’s a good point but Laws was on 2GB for almost as long as he was at 2UE if not longer and he was the biggest name in radio for decades so he deserves a good send off. I kind of hope that 2SM and their networked stations would take the 2GB feed.

I’m assuming they must mean the stations he was networked on via 2UE. Maybe stations like 2CC and others that Grant Broadcasters used to own.

I wonder if 4BC will give up local airtime for this?

Will be interesting to see. It’s been a long time since he was on there. I’m actually very surprised 2GB are doing it tbh,
