Nine Radio (Talk)

Maybe holding steady in case they grab Robin and Kip from 97.3…

Surely Ben would fit better in mornings with a Neil Mitchell approach

I hope that’s what 2SM/SRN goes with next year.

2GB needs to go harder right. SRN needs to keep it lighter & diverse. ABC can keep it to the left.

On Friday, we asked Nine why Fordham had failed to do any checks, and why the story was still on the 2GB website, given police had warned two days earlier that it was old.

This morning, Ben Fordham responded, telling listeners:

BEN FORDHAM: … we accept the correction and apologise for the mistake …

The first we knew about this was Friday afternoon when we received a media inquiry, we immediately removed the website article and the social media post relating to the video and I accept full responsibility for the mistake.

It must be said, conviction rates decline the older the accused gets. And with all the QCs money can muster to throw shade on evidence, it’s all too little, too late.

Sam McClure will host 3AW’s Wide World of Sports live from Melbourne’s Kingston Heath Golf Club on Wednesday-Friday this week, complementing Nine’s TV coverage of Australian Open golf.

I thought he’d left the network?

Not yet, but I am sure he will leave WWOS before the Christmas break. He will still be heard on 3AW at other times and be part of Nine’s sporting coverage.

I had a feeling that either Jimmy or Shane McInnes would get the gig after Sam McClure’s departure. Not surprised.

Jimmy will have some busy weeknights next year, particularly Tuesdays with the WWOS radio show and Footy Classified back to back.

I am not surprised with Jimmy becoming the new WWOS host either.

At least Sam McClure is staying at Nine, returning to The Age as senior sports reporter (as announced earlier this week).

It will be interesting to see if WWOS on 3AW will retain the weekly panel line up (Matthew Lloyd on Monday and Matthew Richardson on Wednesday) next year. Leigh Matthews’ appearance is uncertain as he recently signed with Fox Footy.

Wait. So nothings changed at 4BC? It’s just they’ve made them all permanent?

JIMMY BARTEL TO LEAD 3AW’S AFL AND SPORT COVERAGE IN 2025

Football legend and radio rising star, Jimmy Bartel will host Wide World of Sports, Thursday Night Footy and Friday Night Footy on Melbourne’s Number 1 Station - 3AW - in 2025.

The triple premiership player, Brownlow Medallist, Norm Smith Medallist and AFL Hall of Famer will headline the go to destination for the best footy insights and analysis, together with talkback debate and discussion in this new era of AFL.

Jimmy is already well loved by the 3AW audience, hosting Sunday AFL last year, filling in on breakfast with Mark Allen and raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for Very Special Kids.

Jimmy Bartel said: “I’m thrilled to take on this new role. Being part of the 3AW family has been incredibly rewarding. I can’t wait to engage with listeners, bring them the big stories, and celebrate everything that makes sport so special.”

Stephen Beers, 3AW Station Manager, said: “Jimmy Bartel has long been part of the 3AW family, and we’re thrilled to see him step into the hosting role for Wide World of Sport, along with Thursday Night Footy and Friday Night Footy. Jimmy’s deep understanding of sport, combined with his media savvy and natural connection with audiences, makes him the ideal choice. He’s also got a massive heart - and our listeners love him. We thank Sam McClure for his fantastic contributions and wish him all the best as he focuses on his role at The Age.”

Ash Earnshaw, Nine’s Director of Sales, Total Audio, said: “3AW now has the biggest and best platform for sports lovers and sports advertisers. Jimmy Bartel’s appointment strengthens an already iconic program and reinforces our position as the leading destination for AFL and Sport. Jimmy’s presence across both 3AW and Nine enhances the synergy of the Wide World of Sports brand, delivering exceptional opportunities for advertisers to connect with passionate and engaged audiences.”

So an expanded role for Jimmy.

Jacqui Felgate then Anthony Hudson hosted 3AW’s Friday Night Footy pre-match during the 2024 AFL season.

I thought there was an article recently which mentioned that Nine have dropped the rotating co-hosts for WWOS? Meaning Jimmy will have to host the program solo.

As much as I can’t stand someone like Gary Hardgrave, it’s probably the lineup they needed. Got rid of the fluffy breakfast show and made the whole station a bit harder across the day - they can be a 100% news/talk station now. And it’s local throughout the day which is a big tick.

Sam McClure said at the start of WWOS this evening that his final show as host would be this Thursday (December 5).

The new show will be 9am-1pm not 10am-2pm like at present.

So I’d assume we’ll see more changes to the 2025 lineup at 6PR. Hopefully not as long a shifts for the announcers like at present.

The guests on Sam’s final WWOS show were Australian test captain Pat Cummins, Australian Davis Cup captain Lleyton Hewitt, and Leigh Matthews who used to appear on WWOS and Sportsday on Wednesday evenings during the AFL season.

Correct. More mediocrity at breakfast. Won’t fix the problems.

No mention of the now sole local weekend program, breakfast hosted (and largely produced) by Olympia Kwitowski.
