Well now it’s game on.
Here is 2SM’s chance to outbid 2GB and gain solid talent.

AFR reports that before his own morning show yesterday morning, Ray Hadley phoned Ray Warren telling he would be retiring.
Ray confirmed today he won’t be joining any rival stations. I think we can put that idea to bed.
If he is being released from his contract early then there would be a no complete clause. But what his contract with Nine is worth would dwarf anything that SRN would be prepared to offer. Laws was probably earning a tenth of Hadley.
When Weekly Beast contacted Nine Entertainment about whether it was appropriate for Ben Fordham to attend a Liberal party fundraiser, the 2GB host quickly pulled out.
Fordham said he had not realised the event was raising money for the political party when he accepted the invitation to speak.
The Kirribilli branch of the New South Wales Liberals, on the other hand, knew exactly what was planned: “This is a state fundraising event for Kirribilli Branch,” it said on its website.
Given the cost cutting at Nine Radio, I wouldn’t be surprised if Tony McManus’ overnights show extends its reach to also be heard across 2GB and 4BC next year. It is already heard through 3AW, 5AA and 6PR.
With Ray leaving, that would free up current Overnights host Clinton Maynard for a permanent daytime shift, and a big cost-saving for the company.
I could see a situation where Chris O’Keefe moves to Breakfast (if Ben Fordham insists he wants to move to the Mornings slot), and then Clinton goes to Drive.
Read in the Telegraoh today that Ray would love to call footy again so I’m expecting him to be on the CCT in some capacity next year.
It makes sense for him to pop in for the odd NRL call. But I doubt State of Origin.
Well he plugged a gap when David Morrow got sick and sadly passed
Does anyoe know if Ray Hadley will contiune to host Country Music Countdown nexr year?
Sounds like the program will be ending. The Saturday Night program hosted by Simon Owens will probably just be extended to midnight in the northern markets.

Nine Radio is searching for a new sports host with Sam McClure set to depart the Wide World of Sports seat at 3AW.
McClure has been a feature of the station’s popular program since 2020 when he joined Gerard Healy as Sportsday co-host before taking over as the sole host in 2022 when Nine rebranded the show.
But widespread cost-cutting across the station is believed to be behind McClure’s decision to walk away.
Nine recently dumped the rotation of co-hosts who have worked alongside McClure in the 6pm-7pm timeslot.
But he won’t be lost to the network and will feature on 3AW in its Friday night football coverage.
Very disappointing. I enjoyed Sam’s hosting and his chemistry and rapport with each co-host. Bad call from Nine to dump the co-host role.
Michael McLaren has a good afternoon show. Have you noticed though he does sound pompous with a “put on” radio voice most of the time?
It can be grating at times unfortunately due to the level of pretension.
Michael is very similar sounding (and opinionated) as what Alan Jones was.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he is promoted to take the 2GB Mornings show once Hadley retires.
Interesting point of view. I have to disagree though. I don’t hear any similarity with Alan Jones.
Hadley and McLaren couldn’t be more different. His seat will go to Levy, Fordham or O’Keefe.
The only issue here is Levy is too sporty (and a better all-round fill-in - plus he’ll likely burn out if he does CCT/NRL as well), losing Fordham at the top rating brekkie show would be suicidal, and O’Keefe (as good as I find him to be) doesn’t rate in Drive.
I just hope it’s not Luke Grant.
I hearing Simon Owens
Someone that hasn’t been mentioned is John Stanley. I understand he’s not as young as the other people mentioned but he’s an extremely good broadcaster who would do a great job in that slot. A familiar voice to the listeners as well.
