Nine Radio (Talk)

Same for KIIS in Sydney and Melbourne. No matter what they rate they have a $20 000 000 annual salary bill for their two breakfast announcers.

I doubt that Alan and Ray ever got close to those sorts of wages and Ray is networked to half the country.

….but who the heck wants to listen to Ray Hadley???

Starting a current affairs program at 10am is untenable, they’re just giving the ABC a free kick.

Should have gone with Gary Adshead - 9 to 1. Something to Fill 1 to 2 - 9 news or money show or a paid advertorial etc. Then Oliver Peterson from 2 to 6.

If they want to make cuts, they should drop their footy call team that covers games from a studio monitor, just take 3AW’s feed.

Only positive is Wide World of Sports is extended to 2 hours, like the old Sportsday/Sports Today.

When the Eagles and the Dockers play matches in Victoria, they have 3AW commentators (such as Shane McInnes) calling from the venue, joined by the likes of Brad Hardie who fly in from Perth.

Even ABC did this for a year or two before dropping it.

That hasn’t happened for a few years. Away games are called from Perth off a monitor. I can understand having a local call team for Eagles and Dockers away games, but can’t understand why they have local callers for games not featuring WA teams when they can just take a feed from 3AW. Brad Hardie is based in Melbourne.

Probably because they can make more by selling sponsorships for away games?

Nine were rather too hasty earlier in removing Julie-anne and Tod from the 6PR website, although they are back on again now. This is in contrast to Nine’s usual tardy approach to updating station websites, with the information often out-of-date and it can be difficult to work out the full schedule as sometimes 2 programs appear to be on at the same time

Oh wow. Did they get rid of the wrong people?

I wonder if they’ll have to rehire one of those recently made redundant?

Could also pick up one of those who may be leaving the ABC as apparently they are also going to be shaking up their lineup.

The Australian also has a report on Adshead quitting 6PR, adding:

The station’s content manager, Emily White, has also called it quits, with spies telling The Australian she was unhappy about being left in the dark about the abrupt announcement of changes at the station.

Denis Walter caught out broadcasting remotely tonight. He does it every Monday but pretends he’s in the office.

Guest Tony Tardio has had to take over his nights program due to technical difficulties.

You can always clearly tell when he is remote too. The quality of his voice is slightly muffled, like the bitrate isn’t as high as in studio

I know Denis rates through the roof but surely at some stage both parties will tire of the remote broadcasting arrangement.

I didn’t mind Steve Price’s suggestion in the HS of moving Tony Moclair to Nights. His style of broadcasting is much better suited to evenings. Get a female voice back in Afternoons (be it Jacqui or someone else), and back to a Tom Elliott style drive show.

I’m sure Denis isn’t the only one doing it

He is the only AW presenter who doesn’t live in Melbourne, living in Geelong. I can understand why Denis does it, it’s much more convenient, but I guess when you’re hosting talkback radio it’s important you’re present in the studio, particularly given how much video AW record on the live cam to upload over social media etc.

Ray Hadley presents from home for a few days a week. You can host a talk back program from anywhere. But it would appear the more high profile the presenter the more flexible the arrangements can be.

The sports sponsor credit in the 3AW news appears to have doubled in size (about 5-8 seconds now). More time for sponsors I’m guessing.
