I wonder if they could trial a switch for the remainder of the year.
Get Peter Fegan to do weekday breakfast and have L, G and M do 9-1pm weekends?
Maybe their show might suit the weekend format better?

Maybe switch between him, Peter Gleeson and Bill McDonald - similar to what Q&A did for a while with Virginia Trioli, David Speers, and Stan Grant, and see which one works best.
I would suggest try and get Spencer Howson back to do Breakfast, but he seems to be doing stuff for the Southern QLD University + filling in on ABC these days.
Peter Gleeson finishes up with 4BC tomorrow. He quit.
A lot of people have been wondering whether nine will just pump 2gb into Brisbane and get rid of local programming on 4bc.
I managed to find out what the plan is.
For the lazy people like myself:
Sources have told INSIDE MEDIA that, despite speculation, 4BC will not become a relay station of 2GB. The plan for 2025 is to broadcast live and local programming from 5.30am – 7pm.
Any news of if 4BC have swung the axe?
I’m sure they’re lovely people but this is really good news. I hope the replacement show can be some even mix of Ben Fordham’s and Ross and Russel’s show.
It’s good news all round. The right decision for the future of 4BC. However, it’s also welcome news that they are being allowed to leave with dignity and not being humiliated. It’s good that they will be able to say farewell properly and celebrate what has been a great contribution to Brisbane radio over many years despite 4BC not having worked out for them. Fair play to management for this. At many stations they simply wouldn’t have been back on air again after the announcement
See what Greg Cary is doing.
I hope they can think outside the box. The type of radio that is very successful at their stations in Sydney and Melbourne, hasn’t worked in Brisbane.
If they try to emulate the right wing biased Sydney breakfast, I’m not sure what they will do when the LNP comes to power in a month - I suppose they’ll have to switch to Federal politics
From the sounds of it, one of the things 4bc need to fix at Breakfast is not the presenters, but the format - as proven in the past, if there is a quality strong political breakfast show, then people tune in.
Except it did for 10 years when Spencer Howson did Breakfast on ABC Brisbane - have a strong product at Breakfast, and people tune in.
Although, listener habits may have changed, so might not be quite as successful.
Spencer Howson’s breakfast was nothing like the 2GB or 3AW offering. Being on ABC it tried very hard to be apolitical or at least neutral.
Simon Owens has announced on his Facebook page that he will be taking over the Saturday night slot across the entire east coast (previously only heard on 3AW).
The new Saturday schedule will be:
2GB and 4BC
6pm-10pm: Simon Owens
10pm-12am: Ray Hadley Country Countdown
3AW
6pm-12am: Simon Owens
Watch the Sydney Nuffties head explode of that decision.
Laurel’s 32 year radio career will come to an end soon😕She was lucky to last so long in the radio industry.
Her son Clay is now on Triple A Indigenous Radio on their drive time programme
Hi all. After five seasons of hosting my show “The Simon Owens Show” during the off-football season things are changing this year.
Background - My Sydney/Brisbane equivalent was the great and talented Brent James who hosted the same timeslot on both 2GB and 4BC. However, Brent and the company parted company in April of this year.
So rather than replace Brent in this upcoming season, there will be an east-coast show on 2GB, 3AW, and 4BC.
So my show will make way for the new format.
I’m not going to lie. I was very proud of my show and I poured my heart and soul into it, so I was very reluctant to accept the job. I felt that the network would be better off with a new host in the role.
But management have been very supportive and have offered me the chance to host the new show. For that I am very grateful.
Over the last 5 years I have been lucky enough to have an amazing cast supporting me both on and off air with great segments from
Troy Zantuck, Michael Veitch, Gavin Wood, Bianca Johnston, Bron Robinson, Donna Demaio, Lizzy Parisi, Kirsten Lim-How, Lucy Holmes, Mandy Turner, Megan Hustwaite, Sandy Kaye, Justin Coombes-Pearce, Jamie Duncan and Phil Johnson. And great segments like Compilation Conversations, Not Talking Football, Favourites, Simon’s Selection, and News Free Zone.
I surrounded myself with people whom I truly admire and will miss working with them.
So. The new show (as yet unnamed)…
Each hour from 6pm the new show will have
A Quiz (everyone loves a quiz)
A segment relating to showbiz, music, and light stuff that I do.
Some highlights from Nine’s vast suite of podcasts.
And most importantly, your calls.
After 10pm, 2GB and 4BC will take the enormously successful Ray Hadley Country Countdown, and on 3AW I will continue on until midnight.
In the next week or two I will fine tune the content of the new show with management and I hope I can continue to keep you company on Saturday nights across the east coast.
I’ll keep you posted.
Here’s hoping the show will have a better logo! I’d happily design it for free… haha
Luke Bradnam on 4BC Breakfast is still playing music during the show.
Maybe they’re waiting until Laurel, Gary and Mark leave completely to revamp the slot.
I did expect a more serious show this week. Oh well.
