Nine Radio (Talk)

I don’t believe Nine are interested in 4BC or for that matter Radio, surely it doesn’t bring in much revenue for them. I remember when John Singleton bought Fairfax Radio, all he really wanted was 3AW and bugger the rest. Ray Hadley is known for getting his own way, eventually! but if he really wants to be heard in Brisbane he has to do at least some shows there.

99% of her stuff is just ripped from social media. Same kinds of stories every single day. A terrible listen.

Today Jacqui Felgate is talking about nature strips.

Are the same producers who did Tom’s drive show now doing Jacqui’s show?

Nope he took his producers with him to mornings. Jacqui’s producer is who was Neil’s since Heidi stepped down

Give him a job on 4BH then

They couldn’t cope without it, talking about big news stories is too much for them.

At least they don’t have someone who constantly giggles, like Russel Howcroft on 3AW.

I can’t wait until Jimmy and Mark come on to do their fill in stint when Ross and Russ have a break.

What’s the issue with him being happy? Does he have to be a grumpy grouch to be allowed to be on radio?

Let the man have his joyfulness

But all he contributes is his giggle… He brings little else to the program.

Ray Hadley doesn’t have the influence he had in the Singo days and my sense is that Nine have limited patience with him. If he was really going to get his way, he’d never have been taken off 4BC in the first place. I just don’t see his morning show returning to the station. He also signed a new contract last year in the full knowledge apparently that 4BC would shortly be going local in that slot

Tom Elliott is on the front cover of Good Weekend magazine inside The Age today.

(paywall article)

Hadley only wanted 4BC Mornings with the aim (as always) to replicate the success John Laws had.

Different announcers have different personalities and resonate differently.

Say what you wish about Laws these days, but back in the day, he had a unique ability to connect with almost any audience.

Was Laws a success on 4BC? to my knowledge he only broadcasted on one day in Brisbane at the Ecka? He flew up in the morning and was back in Sydney by mid afternoon.

Sorry to be a pedant, but the word is ‘Broadcast’.
There is no past tense of broadcast.
‘Broadcasted’ is slang or a derivation of ‘broadcast’, the same with ‘Forecast’.
AP’s style guide* lists ‘broadcast’ as past, current and future tense.
“In 2010, they broadcast from 10am; tomorrow the broadcast will commence at 11am” etc.
I know language is always evolving, however, when the word is still current, let’s stick with it.

  • Most major broadcast outlets used ‘style guides’ in the past. Easy to tell these days that most don’t anymore, unfortunately.

If you can educate the people who use “could of” instead of “could have”, I will be eternally grateful.

No.

He did better than most local shifts usually but never set the world on fire here.

The lack of suitable content and broadcasters locally to handle the format has hampered 4BC since they removed racing.

And off topic but how about the people who use “them” instead of “those”, especially the English, sports people mostly . I’d be eternally grateful if you’d educate them!

Absolutely correct, sorry my bad.
For some reason Laws seemed to have a dislike for Brisbane and indeed Melbourne. In Melbourne he asked 3AK to take him off air. I am sure he has mellowed since.

Have any 4BC listeners picked up on Brent James getting the boot?

It’ll be interesting to see what happens when that goes public.
