I noticed on the AW Breakfast podcast this morning that some of Peter Ford’s segment has been omitted. Was anyone listening live, I imagine they were discussing the allegations about Alan Jones? Nine must be concerned about defamatory action?
I think omitted rather than retracted is the correct term.
I listened to Peter Ford’s segment live as I drove to work this morning, and heard most of what he said about these allegations against Alan Jones.
I was wondering the same. I listened live and at least twice during the segment with Peter Ford, Ross Stephenson interrupted and reminded listeners that these are allegations that Alan Jones has denied.
Even though The Age has gone with the story, stablemate 3AW (and Nine Radio in general) must be taking a cautious approach to covering it.
Why did his colleagues like Hadley cover up such serious allegations at the time but come out and blab everything now?
I’m not sure that someone who comes forward with sexual abuse allegations should be described as “blabbing”
I’m not talking about the victim here. I’m talking about Hadley who was told about the sexual abuse back then but did nothing.
Why is he confirming everything and saying more now? Why not take action at the time and possibly prevent further abuse?
Hadley this morning on his radio show:
“He told me at the start of our conversation that what he is alleging had never been shared with anyone except for me on that day. He asked for my complete assurance that I would not share the story with anyone unless he expressly gave me permission.”
“At the time, I offered Bradley my unqualified support, and I asked him what he wanted me to do next,” Hadley said.
“I offered to speak to the then station owner and then station chairman, or perhaps act as a support person. Bradley said he had too much to lose, and he’d be crushed by making such an allegation. He asked me to promise I would never reveal what we had discussed without his express permission.”
Hadley said Webster had now given him permission to reveal details of the conversation.

I only glossed over the article but I thought Hadley offered to take the matter higher within the station, but the victim made him promise not to disclose it to anyone.
We don’t hear much about a similar controversy involving Don Burke, incidentally also uncovered by Kate McClymont. Whatever happened to that?
Thanks for that. I see why he was reluctant to take it further. It is a dilemma though, when you consider that an offender can continue to offend if no action is taken
Sorry - I now understand what you mean, although I do respect Ray for keeping his word and not moving forward with the allegations at the time.
A difficult situation.
But generally speaking, you are 100% right. The allegations have been the industry’s worst kept secret for decades and decades. It’s good that this article’s come out, but it feels like it’s too little too late. Jones has already been at the summit of success and is now at a point in his life and career where he has little to lose. He’s already made millions, he’s already received his Order of Australia … unless the courts get involved, Jones will have gone unpunished.
Don Burke pretty much had his public reputation ruined and he wasn’t doing much public anyway, so he just went away again and so did the talk about it.
they’d all have dirt on each other, these tory white men look after each other even if they’re enemies.
SMH/ The Age would have known about this for years but only reported on it now since he’s been off Nine’s books for a while now. Never would have happened whilst he was on air.
This will mean that there’s no chance of Jones coming out of retirement.
The same goes for the great unwashed of the left.
While it is unlikely that Jones will be charged, or that he will ever take any Ben Roberts Smith / Bruce Lehrmann blow yourself up defamation action against Nine, what it will mean is that the state funeral that he would have craved won’t happen. No-one from the conservative side of politics who has ambition of holding office would be able to go to what will have to be a private affair for has beens.
Firstly, what has this got to do with the topic? Secondly, I lean quite a bit to the left and I have a shower every day, sometimes twice daily!
