Nine Radio (Talk)

He’s moving to a new role at the Daily Telegraph. Presumably reporting but it hasn’t been specified.

Some interesting reading in Annette Sharp’s Daily Telegraph column today.

  • Joe Hildebrand was meant to cover 2GB Afternoons during the summer break but has withdrawn after missing out on the permanent gig, so 2GB are scrambling for replacements
  • A key decision maker at 2GB seriously proposed former NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet as a candidate to replace Deb Knight on Afternoons
  • Clinton Maynard was originally going to be promoted to Money News host from 2024, but management were forced to rescind so they could offer the gig to Deb instead

Why are they so scared of Deb? If they wanted Clinton in there just do it and let Deb go. Strange move there.

I feel sorry for Clinton. The article mentions he’d already accepted the job and had been congratulated on the appointment at a recent awards night. He’s a very talented broadcaster and hopefully a slot opens up for him soon.

Carmen and Queenie. AND ARE OFFENDED!

Clearly the call was from higher up in order to keep Deb at the network.

She isn’t that great though. Clinton has been with the network much longer.

Yes, I tend to agree but I find her fine on ACA and hope she gets more television work. Michael McLaren would not have been my choice for afternoons but each his own I guess. I would like to see George Moore return to weekend mornings but probably wishful thinking and I still think Chris Smith might return. Hard to imagine Bill Woods wanting a permanent weekend shift.

Joe was Deb’s fill in for an extended period of time. I think it was a reasonable expectation that he would move into the role. Hopefully it’s not the last we’ve heard of Joe on radio. He may have an expanded role on Sky News next year.

Given Chris is on TNT Radio doing weekday afternoons these days (followed by ex-Super Radio Network host Dean Mackin) and seems to enjoying himself with much more editorial independence, I for one would be very surprised if he returned to Nine or any ‘mainstream’ outlet. Chris’ TNT show these days much better listening than his last few years at 2GB imo, possibly even better than what I consider to be the peak of his 2GB work during the Rudd/Gillard/Rudd years.

I’d also be surprised if Nine wanted Chris back after the various incidents, although it must be said Chris is now nearly a year sober and seems to be in a much better place mentally.

Further to this, Clinton Maynard was on today.

Nine Syndication site indicates he’s on this week, but Joe Hildebrand is still slated to take over for Summer from next Monday.

Michael McLaren is having a week off before filling in for John Stanley over the summer break and will then take over afternoons permanently. Clinton Maynard is hosting afternoons all week and will then pop up all over the place until mid January when he then takes a break. Yes, did notice that Joe Hildebrand is still on the schedule from next week but who knows!, personally I find him often difficult to understand.

I reckon Clinton will probably be asked to work 8 Days a Week as 2GB keeps plugging its roster. What a trooper ! Bill Woods holding down Weekend mornings and likely may stay there since Michael McLaren’s promotion to weekday arvos. Bill may still float to fill some weekday slots as well. I really hope Joe Hildebrand hangs with 2GB and could become their main floater. Imagine the quirky Joe filling in on Breakfast one day … much preferable to Mark Levy imho. I am not looking forward to summer breakfast on 2GB with Levy :frowning:

I’d prefer him over Luke Grant in the mornings slot.

Wow, 2GB brilliant newsreader Amie Meehan just annouced on air with Ben Fordham that she is finishing up at 2GB next week. Going into PR work elsewhere. Another GB departure…

Fascinating and powerful article in today’s SMH from investigative journo Kate McClymont about Alan Jones’ alleged behaviour during his time at 2UE and 2GB.

Alan Jones accused of indecent assault by multiple young men

Crazy to think that something everybody seems to have known was going on, was going on.
