Nine Radio (Talk)

3AW overnight program with its non news content and irrelevant/random caller topics and rapid call taking is very jarring to 2GB listeners. The switch off factor is high.

When I was working weekend overnights a few years back I would occasionally listen to Alan Pearsall and listeners would send cheerios to one another, the odd prayer here and there and the nauseating woman from Nhil who would prattle on about nothing for about 10 minutes, I think her name is Helen, is she still around? hardly exciting radio. I was pleased to see an end of overnight radio coming up the pipe from 3AW

Warren Moore and Harnsle Joo (Deb Knight’s producer) on 2GB/4BC this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon. Sounding great together.

Where has Warren Moore been all this time?

Does overnight radio really need to be that exciting though? A lot of the callers are probably lonely and insomniacs so appreciate the relaxed style of program in Melbourne where they can call in and chat to the host about any lighter/soft topics. Not sure if hard news discussion is warranted when you’ve just had that for the entire day.

It sounds like you’re trying to solve problems that don’t exist. If nine believes it is in its commercial interest to have state based shows than happy days.

I’m all for more local content rather than networked shows.

Why do I get the feeling that Olympia wants to be on air in more than just a Traffic Reporter capacity.

Maybe 4BC should give her a regular local show and give traffic to somebody else?

Tone, pace and content are key. The Melbourne show isn’t ‘relaxed’ at all.

Bit of a role reversal on 3AW now, Bianca hosting while Simon Owens is producing

Luke Bradnam on 4BC breakfast this morning (and later tonight with weather on Nine News).

I will second (and third) that ! Great to have Clinton Maynard back overnight from 2GB this morning. End of the comatose 3AW overnight feed … for now anyway.

Agree completely. Harnsle’s first air shift and what a great debut. Warm, chatty, engaging and so natural … and a great laugh too. She was in great hands partnering the show with an old pro like Warren. That is one young lady to keep an eye and ear on.

Also a commendation for James Willis pulling Drive on 2GB atm. He’s been around GB for some years now, mostly sport initially, then working with AJ and lately Ben. He’s a great talent and sounding good across topical issues on Drive.

that’s probably a chunk of them, but there’s also shift workers, professional drivers, hospo workers on the way home, people on early shift like bakers etc.

I have a brother who is a long distance truckie. I’ll go with him on runs at times, especially when i was younger and single. I’d often to BNE to Mel with him, crash at a mates place for a week or 2 and do the reverse. he’s put on Spoonman in the truck as it was good entertaining nightime radio.

people do work overnights and you need to appeal to them. i know i put on newsradio overnight, and for sleeping to, its great, but in the car i want good active radio

Imho … that’s a very condescending point of view. To which you are perfectly entitled. Still very condescending but. This isn’t the 1970s now … its a 24/7 world. That’s why the shops are now open on weekends, for example. Many people are increasingly living and working outside of your safe little whitebread world of 9-5 Mon-Fri. So a lot of people who listen to overnights are anything but “lonely and insomniacs”.

I really think that overnight radio should be at least entertaining and informative but in Sydney there is a choice of 3 overnight talkback programmes and I guess the same in Melbourne if what 3AW does not suit.

Seb Costello said on 3AW this afternoon that he would go on holidays next week as his wife prepares for the birth of her first child. Elise Elliott will host Afternoons from next Monday (January 9) until Dee Dee Dunleavy returns.

Seb later confirmed he would still be a part of Nine’s coverage of Australian Open tennis which starts on January 16.

Glad to hear Elise will be back. Seb is good. Just not suited to that time slot, he’s too stilted and sports like.

Seb seems to have quite the wide ranging role at Nine lately. Nepo baby saga continues.

Great to hear the dulcet tones of Craig Willis back on 3AW filling in for Darren James this weekend and next.
