2UE Talking Lifestyle should position themselves at the opposite end of Smooth in the ‘lifestyle’ category.
“More talk. Less music. Sydney’s 2UE Talking Lifestyle.”
I actually think their weekend line up may grow in ratings. Definitely an alternative for the mature audience who enjoy learning about the value of their Wedgewood collection.
Not everyone knows or cares if radio is live or pre-recorded. Again, look at Smooth for the proof.
… As for management saying, “they won’t focus on what is happening in Canberra”, think again - George & Paul and John & Garry will still be focusing somewhat on Canberra.
She was in the 2UE studio this week, she did say that she would be doing it from different places though because of her commitments for Getaway, I think she may have said next week she will be in Cairns.
indeed but it still sounds odd to be using 131332 on 2UE for any show when they are trying to wean listeners off a number that has been used for countless years (no doubt someone on here will know exactly how many!) A split link for the phone numbers, combined with automatic redirecting to the 3AW studio of calls to 2UE’s new number for any shows networked from 3AW, ought not to be that technically challenging. Many stations worldwide use split links for phone numbers etc when in network mode.
I’m pretty sure that 2UE used 13 13 32 as their phone number (prior to the relaunch, of course) as far back as the 1990s, but I’d have to check on that.
I don’t want to be too negative about the new 2UE. Given the woeful ratings in recent years, they had to do something, after all. However, I just can’t see a large enough audience for this kind of radio. I suppose the saving grace is that they have very few “stars” to pay big salaries to, so it’s probably very cheap to put to air. Time will tell.
I think weekday daytimes will be the real challenge for 2UE. Hard to put into words but somehow the lifestyle format has more of a ‘weekend feel’ to it. For example, is a travel programme at 9am every weekday really going to bring in the listeners?
The real danger for Macquarie of course is that not only do long-standing listeners not stick with 2UE’s new format but they drift over to, say, 702 ABC rather than 2GB… Ultimately the show’s sponsors will want a reasonable return on their investment and if 2UE isn’t bringing in the listeners, they won’t keep pumping in money
According to a FB Post the line up is:
5am John & Garry
9am Tim Webster
1pm Ed Phillips
5pm Luke Bona
9pm David Prior
Overnight Tony Moclair
Weekends include Clinton Maynard
Sad no Mike Jeffreys but I guess this isn’t the right format for him. Assuming his departure was amicable, I think there’s a reasonable chance he’ll pop up from time to time as a stand-in, particularly on 2GB where you could see him covering one of the shows over summer.
Trevor Long tweeted that he’s hosting a technology show weeknights 8-9pm

The ‘Talking Lifestyle’ jingles and formatting are beyond irritating, and make listening to John Stanley, whom I’ve followed for years, very painful. I think they need to take this turkey and put it out of its misery.
This is such a hotch potch of a schedule. Reminds me very much of the muddled schedules BBC local radio stations in the UK used to have 30 years ago! An uphill struggle for Macquarie I think.
The Talking Lifestyle jingles and imaging quickly become irritating. I wonder how long some of the presenters will hang around for. Having listened at various points since Saturday, it seems to me that for at least a couple of the presenters, their heart isn’t really in it.
Martp…I agree with you …the presenters are probably there just for the money. Guys like Tim Webster and Ed Phillips have no other radio opportunities. 2UE is their last chance if they want to make money from radio. I don’t blame them-you’ve got to earn a dollar. And I reckon they’ll do their best to make the vacuous content that it is sound mildly interesting.
