I would say very much on the cards, perhaps John Stanley
John Stanley is too middle ground to work at Breakfast again, I think. A loud mouth Jones imitator is what 2GB listeners seem to like.
Probably best option is to leave Fordham there get him to be more Jones like. Changing it now isnât going to fix the problem at least in the short term.
Does 2GB need to replace Ben Fordham with a new breakfast presenter? Perhaps if at the end of the year, Ben Fordhamâs ratings have fallen below 10% or at least well behind KIIS and ABC Radio Sydney.
Right now is probably too early to be making changes though. Especially with the current lockdown in Sydney, talkback stations (including 2GB) look set to rise during the next survey at the expense of KIIS and other music stations.
Yes way too early. Lol
Fordhams salary would be cheaper than Jones so theyâre making money there and arguably the advertising revenue would be better given the audience profile and the fact that thereâs not a concerted effort by companies to cancel Fordham like they wanted Jones.
The Australian readings are crying foul and âgo woke go brokeâ⌠whatever nonsense that is.
I think Fordham will stay even if the ratings are mediocre to pretty good. Say if he maintains number 3 or number 2 in the ratings is good enough. I think with this world today the bigger companies who pay money to advertise would rather safer bets once controversial announcers move on. I think fast forward to when Jacki O and Kyle wish to move on, I think radio will stick to safe options.
2GB will make sure a good bulk of the programs will be âtalking lifestyle topicsâ. I have seen that trend. It is much safer then.
Yep, I agree.
Had Alan Jones remained on 2GB, itâs quite possible that any advertiser boycott push by groups like Sleeping Giants and Mad F***ing Witches may have eventually extended to all Nine Entertainment owned properties including Nine TV and The Sydney Morning Herald, etc.
So too is former 2GB presenter Michael Smith on his website. Going by some of these reactions, youâd think theyâre now getting only 3.3% at breakfast like 2DayFM is.
But in reality, Ben Fordham received 13.3% during Survey #4. While he dropped a couple of percentage points, is down on the figures that Alan Jones used to receive and yes, lost the coveted âSydneyâs #1 breakfast radio program overallâ crown to Kyle & Jackie O - Iâd hardly call 2GBâs current breakfast ratings an absolute disaster.
With the Sydney radio market being one thatâs highly competitive + multiple long running FM breakfast shows, one wouldâve thought itâd be pretty good for an AM show which has been on-air for less than a year to receive 13.3% in 2nd place!
Fordham isnât the problem. The audience is familiar with him and just need to get used to hearing him in the morning. I think Nine would be more concerned about the slide in audience during the afternoon.
There is a lot of pointless long winded fluff in this reply on the argument for this.
Jones has moved on. So I think we should.
We can say âhad this happened, had that happenedâ it hasnât so itâs not really relevant to the discussion.
As NewsWeary has said, Fordham isnât the problem.
The fact is if you look at the ratings dataâŚwhich I understand most on this site do not have access toâŚKyle & Jackie O (while an excellent show) got lucky with a huge spike in Time Spent Listening. This happens on a not infrequent basis. Donât forget Benâs ratings remained stable (anyone who says he fell 0.2% should be banned from this site as they do not understand ratings data).
Got lucky? While I donât listen to Kyle & Jackie O, I vividly remember reading online that they were going to run a highly controversial âMost Beautiful Penis Pageantâ competition (which youâd hope was ages in the planning, so as to prevent any problems with ACMA) back in May.
No doubt that gimmick wouldâve got peopleâs attention and changed some radio listening habits for the duration of that competition, letâs see how K&JO (and their competitors like 2GB) go without it.
I doubt something like that contributed to the survey.
I agree, they got lucky this time round. I canât see it continuing on. Itâs an anomaly in the trend that Fordham has had. Nine wonât be worried.
Kyle & Jackie O wonât be #1 overall next survey, 2GB and 702 will bounce back with the COVID lockdown in Sydney affected the next survey. I am expecting Ben Fordham to regain the #1 Sydney breakfast show in the next survey.
Next survey probably wonât be too good for the music stations in Sydney if this lockdown drags on as long as the first one.
Exactly
Rex Hunt has parted ways with 3AW.
The situation came to a head after an incident during his show on Saturday night. Hunt became incensed when 3AW head of football Craig Moore made contact after heâd missed an ad break during a chat with guest Robert DiPierdomenico. An icon of the station for more than 30 years, Hunt couldnât hide his disappointment. âIâve got steam coming out of my ears,â Hunt said.
A version of the story that is not behind the News Corp paywall, including the audio of his criticism of 3AW management.
No loss there. 3AW should never have taken him back after his first âretirementâ.
I am a fan of Rex, but he was way out of line here. Very unprofessional. Should of admitted his mistake of missing the ad break, apologised and moved on.
Any 3AW Breakfast listeners know if someone has replaced Mikkayla Mossop as restaurant/food reviewer?
Is it this woman here? (I found it under 3AWâs likes on Twitter):
