so so I guess, unfortunately they were simulcast on 2UE also, one station would have been enough
Many Brisbane callers. All of the usual audience the presenters attract. Brisbane loves comfortable night time talk with warm hosts and programs which air many calls from older people.
I gather that the 3AW/2GB/4BC coverage was hosted by 3AW whereas the Magic/2UE/4BH coverage was just a straight simulcast of Nine TV.
I recall even before the Nine ownership and before TL and MSR that Magic and 3AW did similar.
Yes thatâs right, however I think they may have played music during some ad breaks? Not too sure, had it on in the background.
On another note, Iâm curious as to when 3KZâs involvement ceased, I can recall 3MP and Magic having radio rights through the 1990s, short google session shows me late 1960s so a bit of a gap there!
The West is reporting more upheaval at 6PR with evening host Chris Ilsley the latest casualty. The veteran presenter has been sacked after 21 years with the station. Itâs understood his contract was set to expire soon.
Ilsley hosted his last Perth Tonight program earlier this month and was expected to return on January 18.
Tod Johnston and Tony McManus are currently on over summer.
Chris is a great broadcaster and has beyond encyclopaedic knowledge of not only radio but all media in WA and beyond,
Iâm starting to think 6PR have lost the plot and I say this as a loyal listener who has had them on 12 hours a day most weekdays for the past 17 years.
I was majorly pissed when they dumped Howard Sattler after the incident with Julia Gillard but I could at least understand their reasoning with that. I didnât agree, but that outcome was expected. To me it was like they were waiting for a reason and they jumped on it. He owned that timeslot and one screw up and he was gone.
Paul Murray was dumped from Mornings without getting a chance to say goodbye. He didnât do anything wrong - they just didnât want to give him a raise and so they didnât renew his contract. He wanted one final show to say goodbye and they wouldnât give him that.
They have treated Simon Beaumont terribly over the years. Heâs been out and back a few times. He was doing fine on Afternoons and had a loyal audience. His personality was perfect for that slot and now he gets shafted to weekends. That was just unfair. I feel bad for Simon because he got the worst deal from the last round of changes. Sure heâs not gone but he might as well be. No one listens on weekends.
Basil leaving obviously meant Breakfast needed someone new but moving Millsy to Afternoons after 16 years doing Breakfast, which was doing great in ratings, was an unnecessary slap in the face to one of their longest serving presenters. He could have done Breakfast alone and things would have been fine. You could tell with how emotional he was in his last few weeks that he didnât want to move. He even said as much.
The tricky one for me is Liam Bartlett coming back. That is a plus for 6PR for sure but that left Gareth Parker without a show. I like Gareth but Iâm not sure Breakfast will suit him. Heâs far better suited to the Morning show format. No one wants serious stuff at Breakfast. I would have been curious to see how things would have gone if he were paired with Millsy. They could have tried that for a few days or a week before Basil left to see if it would work but no. They didnât even give that a chance.
And now Chris Ilsley. He has done a mighty fine job for so long. He has a loyal late night audience who love the guy. Once again another presenter doesnât get a chance to say goodbye. 21 years. Seriously⌠wtf. Whereâs the loyalty 6PR?
If this is how Nine are going to run 6PR going forward then they are going to lose a lot of listeners. You donât just dump presenters for no reason. Especially ones who own their slot or who are getting better numbers each time the ratings are released.
People donât like change - especially Perth people - but minor changes here or there generally arenât a big deal. They have basically bulldozed their entire weekday lineup.
Nine and 6PR management should be ashamed of themselves.
This will be a disaster.
At the very least, they shouldâve left Simon in his afternoons slot and given Millsy weekend breakfast, so that heâd still get a breakfast show of sorts, albeit on weekends and doing it by himself though.
I also think itâs a mistake putting Gareth on breakfast. Hopefully heâll prove us wrong and relax into the role.
Andrew McLaren doing 12pm - 6pm. A pretty long slot for a day!
Also branded on air as âNew Years Afternoon - with Andrew McLarenâ
I didnât even know he was still with them. They could easily put him on Magic.
I bet they wonât though.
He usually does fill ins overnights when Dennis is on holidays and has weekly segments on Afternoons and Nights
Oh alright. Shows how much I listen to talkback! Still though, he was very popular on Magic (and on AW overnights as well) and would do better than Stevie Jacobs. Donât know whether heâd want to go fulltime or not, but I canât see Nine doing anything more with their music stations anyways.
3AW schedule for New Yearâs Day
- Shane McInnes with New Yearâs Morning from 6am-12pm
- Simon Owens and Phillip Brady with New Yearâs Night from 7pm-12am.
6PR announces new evening program host for 2021
6PR has announced that Tod Johnston will be the new host of the stationâs evening program, The Nightshift .
Tod is well known to Perth audiences, having been the front man of popular Perth-based band V Capri in the 80s and a local media personality in the years since.
6PRâs Content Manager Emily White said âwe are thrilled to have Tod joining us as the host of The Nightshift â.
âPerth knows Tod well and we are confident he will bring his unique energy to our evening programming as part of 6PRâs newly reinvigorated on-air lineup.
âI would also like to thank Chris Ilsley for his hard work and service to 6PR and our listeners.
âI look forward to working with Chris in coming weeks on future opportunities at the station.â
Johnston is one of a number of on-air changes that have been announced on 6PR in 2021.
Next week Gareth Parker will move to host 6PR Breakfast, 60 Minutes reporter Liam Bartlett will join the station as Mornings host and Steve Mills, âMillsyâ, moves to Afternoons.
âThis is the final piece in the puzzle for us in terms of our on-air lineup as we prepare for a big new year on 6PR,â White said.
âWe are excited for what 2021 will bring.â
Tod Johnston has held high-profile roles in entertainment and media over a number of years as a singer, television host and radio broadcaster.
These include being a weatherman for Nine News Perth and an on-air presenter on both ABC 720 and 6PR.
âPerth is my home and to be able to join the 6PR team gives me the opportunity to connect even more with the local community,â Johnston said.
âI will be sharing the latest news, talk and music with the 6PR listeners and look forward to them welcoming me into their world.â
Link to sports day on 3aw has been lost during the news, currently playing music until it is re established. A random announcer came on to explain!
It has returned at 6:22pm
No loss there. Anyone know who the announcer was?
Loving Jo Hall on afternoons. Itâs such an easy listen, nice change to it being so opinionated and loud. It gets a bit overbearing usually as much as I like Dee Dee.
Unfortunately not and no local talent scheduled all week,
Local weekday shifts resume 18 January.
If the shutdown of Australiaâs third biggest capital continues longer than Monday evening, the anger will be bubbling over from local businesses, some who listen to talkback. Remember, all over one case of UK covid strain from a hotel quarantine worker.
Huge opportunity lost if program teams donât return from holidays, they are all within Qld.
