Nine Radio (Talk)

Last time I checked Alan Jones hates anything and everything.

LOL yeah, that’s true! :stuck_out_tongue:

The cumulative audience figures tells the story. 2Day, NOVA, KIIS, Smooth, WSFM, Triple M and 702 ABC all have a higher cumulative audience than 2GB in the 40-54 demographic. 2GB’s core audience is 65+.

Alan Jones is sponsored heavily by Coles on 2GB.

As a program sponsor though?

Or just ads on 2GB at any time of the day?

Because you can hear Coles ads on any radio station at any time (same with Harvey Norman).

Yeah, Harvey Norman is on every commercial radio station, and I have heard them as a sponsor on a couple of community stations.

Alan Jones Show at 6;20am this morning…

Alan: "Hello Greg"
Greg: "Hi mate - I’m calling from the Brisbane Docks and I was wondering if I can use this 18C law to complain about some people that were on the street and not speaking English as them (sic) not speaking English , that offended me"
Alan: "No Greg you can’t and you know why?"
Greg: "No Alan tell me…"
Alan: “Because you are white - because you are Anglo-Saxon and therefore disadvantaged on this continent - you can’t complain about anything because you are white - that’s the problem - you have white skin”

The Alan Jones Show is:
a) The funniest show on Australian radio
b) As close to Third Reich Radio as anything put to air post 1945
c) The home of the angry white male
d) All of the above.

Answer? D.

But “A” is also accepted.

Well when it says Coles brings you the Alan Jones breakfast show I’d guess that is integrated sponsorship.

And yet Jones is a white man who gets millions of dollars a year for sitting behind a microphone just for complaining for hours each day and for days on end…

Anyone know how long Tyrepower have been sponsoring 3AW Traffic?

The theme & voice-over is so old now. That and the 3AW Weather theme need updating IMO.

Since at least 2014.

I don’t know how long 3AW have used their current weather theme for, but 2GB has had theirs in use since at least the Early 2000s. 2GB’s news theme has been the same for years too, only receiving a slight remix around ten years ago (I think).

But for as long as both stations are #1 in the ratings, I can’t see MRN doing a damn thing about the on-air branding of either 2GB or 3AW!

The 3AW news theme is also used by 3CS last time I listened in January.

MTR used to use 2GB’s news theme when it was around.

Presuming that it’s the one I’m thinking of, doesn’t 3AW’s current news theme (which I believe has previously been used by 2UE here in Sydney, maybe around the Late 2000s era) date back to the “Southern Cross Network News” days?

Correct, it was used when the frequency was changed from 1278 to 693.

I don’t know about it been used at 2UE tho.

3AW’s current theme package (news intro, traffic, weather & program intros + general “Talking Melbourne” themes) go back to at least 2008.

Which is also when the then Fairfax Radio logos were updated (current ones - obviously excluding 2GB).

Adding to that, I’m pretty sure it’s when 3AW moved into the new “MediaHouse” studios in Docklands (adjacent to The Age - also Fairfax & Southern Cross Station).

NB/
Formerly owned by Southern Cross, which is a Melbourne company & head office in Sth Melbourne remains so with “Austereo” - Fox FM, 2Day FM, etc).

Here’s a ~pre-2008 photo of 3AW with the old logo (and very old equiptment) from the old offices in the inner-city:

Just saw a post on Radio Today…Looks like Ray Hadley’s Continuous Call Team got smashed again on Saturdays. Years ago Hadley used to make a big deal about it being number 1 when he was on the show. Well how times have changed. It’s being beaten by KIIS, Smooth and WSFM.
The tip: Hadley will probably announce that he will leave the show at the end of the year.

The Continuous Call Team has been beaten by some of the FM stations for a while now. So he’s probably right. Hadley will make up some excuse about “passing the baton to someone younger” and leave the dying show at the end of the year.

2GB is eighth in cumulative figures on weekends despite winning the overall weekend ratings. Hadley did appeal to a younger audience in previous years but his right-wing grumpiness these days mostly attracts the 65+ demo.

Hadley will be absent again tomorrow. He’s had quite a few Saturdays off this year for various reasons. I think you’re right.
