What was he thinking?

Whilst he’s allowed to form an opinion on any subject matter, he shouldn’t say these opinions out loud on a breakfast show, potentially damaging his reputation.

Must be looking ahead for Liberal preselection for state politics

Hopefully George Moore makes an appearance in the line up over summer, also.

The Two Murrays return to weekends on 2GB and 4BC

Two of Australia’s favourite broadcasters are returning to radio with Murray Wilton and Murray Olds (aka The Two Murrays) set to deliver five hours of news, sport, entertainment, lifestyle and plenty of frivolity over summer weekends on 2GB and 4BC.

Their new show launches this Saturday, October 31, and continues on weekends right through until the start of the NRL season in March 2021.

The Two Murrays will go to air Saturday and Sundays 2pm–7pm on 2GB and 1pm-6pm on 4BC.

“We’re so pleased that The Two Murrays have answered the call to team up again for a summer filled with their unique chemistry and banter,” said Greg Byrnes, Head of Content for Nine Radio.

“They’re great mates on and off-air and that genuine friendship is sure to resonate with our listeners.”

The Two Murrays have decades of radio experience between them, both together and separately. Over the years they have had stints on stations including 2GB, 2UE and the ABC.

“We’re just a couple of ordinary blokes having a yarn,” said Wilton. “We can’t wait to resume the conversation with old and new friends on 2GB and 4BC,” said Olds.

Away from radio, Murray Wilton is the General Manager of Agriculture and the Sydney Royal Easter Show for the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW.

While it’s good that The Two Murrays are returning to radio, it’s a pity that they won’t be heard on 2UE!

Turns out he momentarily forgot he was Lord Mayor of Perth. As if that makes it fine to say those things.

I wonder if Nine will quietly pull Basil from 6PR Breakfast before Monday.

For all we know, viewers might boycott the station and they won’t want to be losing ad revenue.

According to The Australian, Neil Mitchell has put his negotiations for a long-term contract on hold until he can meet his boss Tom Malone face to face. The paper says that days before recording his highest ratings ever with a 22.7 per cent share in last week’s survey, Mitchell signed a short-term six-month contract to roll over on the same terms as his previous three-year deal. The short extension will take him through to the middle of 2021.

If Mitchell is rating a 22.7 share by S6/2021 then I’ll be damned.

Nice to see Bill Woods on nights during the Summer filling in for John Stanley.

6PR announces new on-air line-up for 2021

6PR has unveiled a new and refreshed 2021 on-air lineup for the leading Perth talk station, announcing that popular Mornings host Gareth Parker will move to the key Breakfast shift.

Highly respected 60 Minutes journalist Liam Bartlett will rejoin 6PR as its new Mornings host, while Steve Mills, ‘Millsy’, is moving to Afternoons . Oliver Peterson continues in the Drive shift, while Simon Beaumont will host a new Saturday/Sunday Morning program.

“We’re very excited about 6PR’s new on-air lineup,” Emily White, 6PR Content Manager, said. “Gareth Parker is perfectly placed to lead our talk radio format through the next decade with his great style of broadcasting and journalism he has honed in the Mornings slot. His ability to break stories, analyse events and set the news agenda will be the driving force of a reshaped 6PR.

“We are similarly delighted that Liam Bartlett is making his return to daily radio as the new host of Mornings , a slot he has dominated previously, and we’re very happy that Millsy has found a new home on Afternoons . Together with Oly in Drive and Beauy supercharging our weekends, it makes for a formidable lineup seven days a week and delivers on our promise of the best live and local, news, sport, weather, traffic, information and entertainment.”

The appointments of Parker and Bartlett sees two of Perth’s most experienced journalists taking over the key talk radio slots on the 6PR station. Parker joined 6PR four years ago after more than a decade at The West Australian newspaper where he extensively covered WA politics and has brought a strong style of breaking news and insightful interviewing to the station.

Bartlett rejoins 6PR from leading national current affairs show 60 Minutes . Based in Perth, Bartlett has a long history in the state across Nine, the ABC, and as a columnist and feature writer for News Ltd/The West Australian . He will continue to file a number stories for 60 Minutes each year.

Gareth Parker said he “couldn’t be more excited” about moving to Breakfast .

“It’s a huge privilege and big responsibility to wake up with our wonderful 6PR listeners and help get the day underway. We want to set the agenda with the big interviews and the most relevant breaking news, but it’s also about that essential traffic and weather info that helps people navigate the morning, the latest in sport and entertainment while having those great talkback conversations and plenty of fun along the way.

“The opportunity to rejoin the 6PR team and represent our Perth audience was just too good to pass up,” said Liam Bartlett. “To advocate on behalf of so many great listeners and help keep our decision makers honest is what makes the ‘Morning Program’ so special and the reason I’m so thrilled to be returning”.

Gotta feel for Steve Mills to be moved to afternoons.

Hopefully Gareth can loosen up a bit in the breakfast slot.

Now THAT’S good use of Nine talent. Put strong TV journos on their News Talk stations. I’d like to see more of the 60 Minutes presenters past & present pop up on all the 9Radio stations.

Don’t like the breakfast change. Millsy should have stayed on with a new co-host. Parker is good but too heavy for that slot.

Agree, he’s a bit too on the serious side.

You need a good personality who also has a bit of a newsy background for the breakfast slot.
