Nine Radio (Talk)

The Australian reported today that Chris Smith has ruled himself out due to family considerations and Jason Morrison’s name is still in the mix.

I think bad blood between Hadley and Morrison is one of the reasons why he left 2GB for 2UE years ago. Not sure how much sway Hadley has with the new management but I wouldn’t be surprised if Nine saw this as an opportunity to inflict a blow on an increasingly competitive Seven News Sydney by having Morrison return to his old Drive slot.

Doesn’t sound like that to me

Not a big loss to be honest. They won’t become more competitive until they get a better EP for their bulletin in Sydney.

Jason Morrison sounds like he’s probably better on radio anyway, would be a good move if Nine is able to override Hadley’s influence.

Yes, it looks like they have given the Drive shift to Levy as it is on the Nine Radio Syndication website as a program.

Terrible choice, I think.

Think he’s nothing more than a younger Hadley-clone. Certainly sounds like it judging by his tone regarding the Piers Morgan and Craig Kelly’s exchange last Summer.

Agreed.

The drive shift really should be given to John Stanley, nights to Michael McLaren, overnights to Luke Grant…maybe weekend overnights to Mark Levy although I’d personally prefer it if Susie Elelman again got a regular stint on 2GB rather than just occasionally filling in over Summer, etc.

You know, it actually wouldn’t surprise me if Mark Levy gets the morning shift at 2GB whenever Ray Hadley decides to call it a day.

Another tubby guy from the NRL coverage. Sydney radio is weird.

Forget about his politics for a second: aside from being far from original, the fact he’s a Hadley clone isn’t an issue in and of itself for 2GB.

The real question is this: Who the bloody hell is Mark Levy?

Most of the 2GB audience would have a fair idea who John Stanley is, while Michael McLaren and Luke Grant are both long standing presenters of talk shifts. But Mark Levy? Granted, a whole asterisk of listeners would recognise him from Macquarie Sports, but even on 2GB he’s still just a guy from the NRL coverage.

However tabloid his appearances may be, at least Ben Fordham has a TV profile. Mark Levy has several Twitter accounts. Good luck with that one, Nine.

It’s not permanent. Yet.

Exciting news!!!

I’ll be hosting the Drive Show over the next few weeks with Ben Fordham making the move to Breakfast.

I hope you can tune in from 3pm on 2GB & 4BC.

I’ll also be hanging around to present Wide World of Sports and the Continuous Call Team.

Bring it on!!!

Here’s the tweet that the above was copied and pasted from.

Do 2GB have a rule in place about wearing their branded clothing?

@Gilbo, thanks for the memory refresh, very interesting.

@Tom_TV7, thanks, that sounds right, typical misuse of influence by Jones. Didn’t hurt Shaun, he’s doing similar to big audiences on 2.

Would be interesting if Jason leaves 7, he loves that job, it’s a world away from talkback, but may feel he has unfinished business.

It’s the lowest rating on the station, a structural defect, has been the lowest daypart for much of the post 2002 Jones Hadley era of GB.

@littlegezzybear, agree.

John Stanley would have been the smart choice. God knows he deserves it after years of being fucked around.

He was tragically wasted on Talking Lifestyle and Macquarie Sports Radio.

Fair point about the first three, but I didn’t realise that Ken Sutcliffe was a solely rugby league personality. Although he certainly was on-board to cover the big rugby league events like State of Origin and Grand Finals, from what I recall Ken covered a variety of Sports for Nine before his 2016 retirement from television.

No, you are correct. I just looked him up and he has worked on many a non-Rugby League sports production for 9 in the past. I just automatically associated him with League.

Though since Nine has been an NRL network for so long, can’t blame you for associating him with Rugby League.

I wouldn’t have needed to have looked him up to know that he fronted Nine’s coverage of sport for many years, most notably Wimbledon and the Winter Olympics, and State of Origin.
